Mental Exhaustion VS. Physical Exhaustion

For years I've worked in factories and came home so tired it wasn't funny. Physically tired from working, running presses and on my feet all day long. Now I have a job with alot of responsibility but I'm on a computer all day long, sitting down in a big comfy chair. I thought it would be so much easier and I wouldn't be tired at all. Seems like it's just as exhausting but in a different way. How is it that you can be just as overworked by sitting in a chair?

The one common factor with both jobs is stress. If you weren't under so much stress, more than likely you wouldn't feel so exhausted. The grass always seems greener on the other side of the road. Personally, I've had jobs on both sides of the fence. I prefer working on a computer, but I didn't want the stress so I made every effort to work for myself. There is still stress, but if I am too overwhelmed, I can get up and exercise to relieve the stress. Sitting in a comfy chair working on a computer with several deadlines and a lot of responsibility is not fun. I wish you luck in dealing with your stress.

I know what you mean. I have always worked in factories and worked very hard. I have been working online the last few years and put in alot of hours. I have alot to do and keep up with every day and it can become very overwhelming at times. I think it is stress and the online duties that is wearing us out.

I agree with compumom, the common theme here is stress. It can take many sneaky forms, and exhaustion is when your body has had enough. It's important that you make some time in your day to have a break and do something completely different. Sitting at a screen all day? Get outside and go for a walk, take the dog, the kids, the partner or all. Play tennis, go for a ride, do something that's completely different. Do it every day, even when you're so tired you don't want to. It will recharge your batteries, and help you sleep better at night, too. Good luck. Em.
