Is it possible to differentiate between good and nice?If so how would you do so? Establishing differences between good and nice assumes that one may possibly be better than the other. Which would it be and for what reasoning?

I think that there is a very good difference between good and nice you can have one without the other. Being good which is defined by the dictionary as being morally excelent; virtous; righteous; pious; right; now on the other hand nice means pleasing; agreeable; delightful. The definitions of the words say it all, one can be nice without being morally righteuos or right I can think of at least a dozen times this week when I was nice but not good. But in retrospect I can also think of an equal amount of times where I am good but not nice. It would be a wonderful world if we could always be good and nice but at the current time I will take 50/50.

Good is a better thing to have. One may do a bad thing and yet seem nice..For eg the Politicians..they do look nice and speak nice inspite of the fact that some of their deeds are really worse(not even bad). It is possible to distinguish between the two with a little thought on how really the net effect of the task is...if its good not very nice though..Its better to take it.

Strictly speaking, nice means polite but how do we now use the word? Perhaps, the best way to describe its present use is to say it means something like, pleasant or pleasing. A nice day is one that is pleasant or pleasing, a nice person may be one that is pleasing to look at or one that is possessed of a pleasing disposition. Good means possessing some valuable quality; we may say a chair is a good chair because it is good for the purpose we intend it for, sitting on or looking at, etc. People can be said to be good in two manners, we might say a man is good because he is skilled at his job, he is a good carpenter, etc. or we may mean he is good because he is possessed of a virtuous nature. Now, I take it that it is the latter of the meanings that the poster of the question means. So, the question becomes is there a difference between a pleasing disposition and a virtuous one. Now we can imagine a person that had a charming personality yet behaved in a most evil manner, perhaps you have met the same. Similarly, we can think of people that are abrasive or even unpleasant in their demeanor yet have hearts of gold. So, I conclude these terms are not synonymous all the best urban

They are both ethical categories. There is a whole family of them, and in theory of ethics they are fairly well differentiated. - good is something that your mind perceives as useful; in accordance with your expectations; or something that you think will surely make the next thing also good....it makes you feel confortable, is something that fits you....and so on - we say nice when something is good but it does not necessarily imply our own feelings, thoughts, desires...it's a distance in this word...we say nice to express the fact that it does not bother us but surely suits the author of that thing pretty well...From another point of view, we say nice when we surprisingly see the thing came out good (because our expectation of that thing was on contrary) They are not identical....that's for sure! Hope you get my point!

Nice is a form of good. Good is a general term describing all that is beneficial. Nice is a way of being towards someone or something. You are nice to somebody or nice in a certain aspect of yourself. Good is a condition of something by nature. One is a state, the other is a manner of behaviour. What do you think ?

To me there is a difference. Nice to me means not saying/doing things that would hurt someone else or saying/doing things to make someone feel better- no matter if it was the truth or not. Good to me means always doing/saying whats right no matter if someone will be hurt by the truth. So I believe there is a difference, but wether one is better than the other I couldn't say. I guess it would depend on the situation.
