Ban of Coca Cola and other soft drinks is spreading across India after a Delhi-based NGO's findings revealed that pesticide residues were present in the soft drinks from the Coke and Pepsi brands. After the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) reported on August 2 that the pesticide residue in 11 samples of soft drinks from the Coke and Pepsi brands were 24 times higher than what is permitted by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), state authorities pressed the panic button, ordering bans on the sale and consumption of soft drinks in educational and governmental institutions. Among the first states to call for the ban was Punjab which, on August 3, prohibited the sale of the soft drinks in the Vidhan Sabha canteen. On August 4, Haryana and Rajasthan followed suit with the latter imposing an indefinite ban, prohibiting the sale and consumption of soft drinks in educational institutions, medical college hospitals, health clinics and the State Assembly. Now many other states following it, lets discuss if it's a wise decision to ban them or not.
