Wisdom Teeth

Today I am getting the last three of my Wisdom teeth removed. I go in about 30 minutes. I have to go to an oral surgeon and they are going to put me under anastesia which I have never had done to me before. I am a little apprehensive about getting my teeth removed, I don't have a high tolerance for pain. Anyone care to share their Wisdom teeth horror stories here? I let you know how mine goes when I get back.

You could save money on your bill... I know it sounds risky, but... Find a dental school near you, and go there. I know people who have gone and had procedures done for less than half of the normal cost. They said it was a very pleasant experience, as the "students" have already had the book training, and this is just their hands-on training. The students were also extremely cautious, as they wanted to pass... just a tip. Good luck!

I had my wisdom teeth pulled, but I didn't get them all pulled at once. I had them done one at a time and that was bad enough! My husband had all 5 of his done at once (one in his nasal passage) and he told me I was smart for doing it one at a time. However I don't think he had this option as he needed his out NOW and couldn't wait until later, like I did. I also remember talking to one of my friends, some months after I had my last one done, and her boyfriend had all 4 of his done at once. Poor guy cried, he was in so much pain.
I did cry when I had my first one pulled, not because of the pain (the dentist numbed my mouth), but because it was such a scary thing to go through, and I didn't know what to expect. Once I heard the CRUNCH it scared the hell out of me and I started crying right there at the dentist's. LOL But once I went in to have the other 3 removed I knew what to expect and I saw no need to cry, though it still freaked me out when it came that darn crunch! LOL

I had the first one just pulled when it got a cavity many years ago. And then I didn't go to the dentist for about 8 years because I hate going. Now I have several cavities including one in all of my wisdom teeth and one of my wisdom teeth was digging into another tooth so that is why I decided to have them removed. It is kind of painful to have several removed at once, but I think I will make it through it just find with the help of the pain medication that the doctor gave me and the help of my husband.

I haven't got mine removed yet. I don't even know if my wisdom teeth grew already, haha... There are tiny teeth growing but I don't know if that is wisdom teeth. I am already 22 and my wisdom teeth haven't grow that much. When is the usual age wherein wisdom teeth grow?

I think mine came in in my early twenties or so. Some peoples never fully come in, and some have to have them cut out but they barely break the surface of the gum and the gum keeps getting infected. Your wisdom teeth will be the very back teeth in your mouth. You may never get them, some people don't, as they are vestigial structures that no longer serve any real purpose.

It was many years ago, Aurone, that I had my wisdom teeth removed, and I was also placed under anesthesia. There was mild discomfort for two or three days following the procedure, but it wasn't anything to worry over. I wish you all the best -and no complications.

When I had 3 out at once I prepared ahead of time by making up a week's supply of several kinds of delicious healthy soups, thinking I would not feel much like chewing for a while afterwards. I also took a gram of Vitamin C before and upon returning home took a gram ever hour or two. I didn't need the pain pill they gave me to take home. I couldn't get the next day off work, so I went to work. It was OK, not great, but when I got home I popped another gram of C and drank some soup! By the next day I was pretty much back to normal and when I returned to the oral surgeon for follow up I gave him back his pain pill.
He got mad and yelled at me and said it was my own fault that I didn't heal well and yanked my mouth open. Then he gasped, and demanded to know what I took instead of the pain pill. I told him and he just looked at me a while. Then he said, I have never seen anybody heal so fast and asked again, "What exactly was it that you took, when and how many?" I told him again and he said he would recommend to the next patient he had to do the exact same thing that I did, and he apologized for having been a jerk. Amazing.

Wow thats amazing. I have definitely been taking my pain pills and I am on day two and I don't know if I will be lecturing my class on Friday or if I am going to go find a video. I might just go round up some vitamin C and see if that helps. And my surgeon was real nice, he even called me at home the first evening to make sure I was doing okay. I did eat some real food today which was good, I think. But I don't think I will be 100% for a couple of more days.

I had two wisdom teeth removed, without being anesthetised. Wisdom teeth are just awkward to get at to pull, they have no roots, so they're not as painful as you might expect, afterwards. In fact, one of the ones I had removed, a new one grew in its place but it is only tiny, almost like a milk tooth. I must be ultra-wise! ha ha ha.
Brightest Blessings and good luck.

I was one of the very rare few who never got wisdom teeth. Neither did my dad. guess that means we were not very wise so you may want to stop reading at this point. My daughters however, so far have all gotten their wisdom teeth and all had trouble with them. I have, working in the public and also raising children come to believe that in most cases all goes well when the wisdom teeth are removed and that the longer one prolongs removing them...that is the suffering. As far as the anesthesia, I did go under once to have a tooth pulled years ago...it was scary but turned out not so bad. You wake up a bit disoriented but that wears off. I say syke yourself into this becuz the alternative is to suffer with the wisdom teeth which from what I understand is very painful.

I never had any horrors with mine. I never got my first wisdom tooth in until my late fourties. Now at 53 I am getting my last one in. It was just a bud until I had to have a broken molar pulled. All of a sudden it decided to develop and grow. It should be in in about a week or so. It is almost through the gum. Its kind of nice because it will sort of fill in the hole of the missing molar.lol cl:)

I had all four of my wisdom teeth pulled at the same time, but unlike you, I do have a high tolerance for pain. I did it with just local (xylocain) anesthesia. But then that dentist was top notch! My horror story would be when I got my top teeth pulled and dentures put in. That was a nightmare. I hate going to the dentist.

Well, well, you should be well "under" way by now... lol! Sorry 'bout that. Had to say it.
Yikes! I had all four of mine removed at one time. I went under. It was great. As long as I followed instructions and did not eat the things they told me not to, and took my pain meds, it really wasn't too bad. I was in much more pain prior to the surgery.
Two of my wisdom teeth had absessed (spelling?) into my jaw and had to be drilled and chiselled out. Before surgery, I was in massive pain. During... didn't feel a thing. And after... well there were meds to take care of it all.
And oh yeah! I lost some weight, as I couldn't eat anything for days... (well, nothing substantial, anyway.) Overall, it wasn't a bad experience. Just remember to follow doctor's (dentist's) orders and do what you are told to have the best experience possible. Welcome back, and I hope you feel better!

Thanks, it feels like someone took a baseball bat to my jaw, but the pain meds are helping out with that and my husband got me a couple of milkshakes to drink--um tasty. Its not as bad as I thought it would be, but neither is it a pleasant experience thanks for the encouragement.
