I am sick to death of 'emo' today. Emo is NOT black hair, eyeliner on boys and a depressed attitude. Emo today has nothing to do with the origins of emo. Emo started in the 1980s, possibly the 70s depending on who you speak to. I encourage everyone to educate themselves on this issue and if there are any 'emo' kids out there reading this- grow up! Take a look at yourself and stop dragging the emo name through dirt. Get your own word for whatever lifestyle it is you're living...

emo now a days has more then one meaning. slang for emotional, in the literal terms, its now a "type of dress" and music. in music terms it still is VERY much old emo. everything has grown, and evolved. but because emo music today isnt the same as emo music of 10-20 years ago DOESN'T mean its NOT emo. it all comes from the same roots, and many times the same influence, but changed.
taken directly from the site you posted. "Emo is a broad title that covers a lot of different styles of emotionally-charged punk rock."
as dress terms, its come from the type of clothes typically (stereotypically) worn by the musicians of EMO music. annoying, but you cant stop a trend.
punk now a days is thrown around worse the emo is. now THAT annoys me.
buttt we cant stop people from doing things. its annoying, but you cant stop it or change it.

What is emo anyway? My day this was punk and pre goth alternative...We didn't have goth in high school..But this emo seems like it's nerdy...

I saw all these kids at my daughters swimming carnival dressed as Emo yesterday. Or what they think is Emo. Teenagers dont bother looking into the correct terminology. They just blindy follow their peers, regardless of whether they are correct or not.

Emo was originaly a form of punk rock music very emotionally based. not necessarily anything having to do with being depressed and slicing your wrists so your completely correct when you say that they are dragging the emo name through the dirt. However things evolve over time to blend with the culture. I enjoy the emo music it is very thought out and enjoyable genre that seems to express how i feel at times. and making fun of kids who claim to be emo is fair but the kids that really are and not posing is nasty. im an emo and by that i mean emotional not wrist slitting girly dressing makeup wearing girly boy.

Emo now adays sounded more like a fashion statement. Mostly their hair style has become so popular especially to the gurls. When I saw a guy with an emo hair, they looked so g@y to me. Ew!

...emo was never meant to be a fashion statement. So much as these guys think they're so alone in this world and nobody notices them, they're clothes and hair are calling attention from as far as a radius of ten meters.

haha! good one!
i recommend another site: youdontknowemo.tk
I listen to EMO, yes...but fashion core is not just my style, i guess. I just don't like it when posers make society define EMO as something it's not. But i don't really hate those guys, they look cute. Fun, actually... Some of them got really nice hooded jackets. :p

Thank you so much. My roomie and I were talking tonight and wow, I am going to let her read this because she thought when I told her she was emo that I was almost calling her a bad name. I have always felt it was a good name and now I can prove it to her.
