Why would IPL be a big threat to ICC??? IPL is domestic T20 tournament and it will be as popular as English County in England. IPL is loved mostly by Indians more than others. IPL will be earn more viewership in domestic circuit compared to other torunaments like Ranji Trophy, Challenger Trophy,etc.. If domestic tournaments too need some viewership then big named players have to participate in these tournaments and some foreign teams too have to participate in these tournaments to get some viewership.. Let us hope for best to IPL and ICC is international body and it was no threat from any local body of particular country..

Not really, as the Indian Cricket Board run the IPL and also have a huge influence over the ICC! Which is natural given the role India play in world cricket.
Cricket is changing. Firstly, there is no free to air cricket on British television. This is affecting the game. When Test cricket was on free to air television it averaged 2 million viewers; now Sky test matches have an average of about 100,000.
Also, Twenty/20 has ruined cricket a little. It's good because it brings in fans who can watch a whole game (an actual game at the ground) in a shorter time, and it will be good to promote cricket in non-cricketing countries. But, Test cricket and 50 over games are the forms of professional cricket I most enjoy, and I can't get excited about international Twenty/20 games.
Ian Chappell wrote an article where he said the IPL will be good for cricket as it will force the authorities to cut down on international cricket meaning there is a better quality. For example, the system where everyone tries to play each other in tests home and away will be scrapped. I agree with this a little and feel there is too much international 50 over and test cricket.
I prefer international cricket - test and 50 over - and don't think an all star IPL 20 over knockabout will be better. People may get bored with the IPL. Then again it may become popular - it's planned champions league with 20/20 teams from different countries may take off, eclipsing international cricket.
I'd still rather watch Engand v India playing test cricket in white clothing at Lords of Eden gardens or having a great 50 over ODI series than watching a Twenty/20 tournament made up of teams of players from different naions thrown together!
