What do you say/do when someone says that you're handsome (or beautiful)?

That is not by your wife, lover or something similar, but by an almost new friend or friend's of an old one you just got introduced to. Or maybe by a complete stranger. And regardless of wheather you're really handsome (or pretty) or not.
How should you reply the best way? Just a "thank you, that's cool"?

I just smile and say an honest 'thank you.' Really, I don't think there's anything more to be said than that. Just take it for the compliment it's meant to be.

Yeah now I think of it, that is a really good, safe and easy answer. But only if there was really nothing and it was just a daily compliment. Sometimes I think too much like, 'why did she say that really' or 'wait, I'm not handsome. At least not very', or 'if i'm really handsome then why am I still single?'.

Beauty (or handomeness) is in the eye of the beholder, what one considers beautiful another may consider homely. It's good to remember too that not everybody says something with an alterior motive behind it, sometimes a compliment is just that...a compliment. And if the same somebody's telling you that every day, then it sounds like they are trying to get across that they would like you to like them back in maybe a romantic way. Maybe she's testing you to see if you feel a spark of interest too? If you're interested in her, take the compliment she gave you and add that 'I think you're pretty too' (or something like that.) And if you're NOT interested, just plain say thank you and change the subject, enough of that and she should get the hint.

Well generally when someone says that...I just say thank you you look pretty today..or something like that to give the compliment back to them...or semething like that...sometimes if I am just playing around with them or something ill say wow hitting the sauce this early in the day huh lol or something like that..but usually just thanks your pretty today..
