What is wrong with a 40 something woman buying a video game system for herself?

I was flipping channels the other day and came across Judge Judy. She was deciding if a play station was a gift for a boy or bought for herself. Then the judge says something like 43 year old women don't buy video game systems for themselves. I was just thinking how I would like to get a WII for myself and that that would be my next large purchase. It got me to thinking, is there an age where you are to old to game? I think not and being a man or woman should have nothing to do with the equation. Fun is fun isn't it? Are you ever to old to game?

I agree with you 110 per cent. There is no age to play games. You are only as old as you think you are. Some people are old at 20 while some other never grow old. Judge Judy is caught up in her job. Her job is her life... and she does not see beyond that. She would not understand a 40 year old playing games when there are so many important things to do in life. It comes down to attitude to life. Humans have come to believe that it is their duty to devote their life to work. Are they right?

I know what you mean some people were just born old. I strive to stay immature for life!

You don't have to be immature to play games. Being immature is a very bad thing. The trick is to be young of mind and be mature at the same time.

I don't think you are ever to old to play video games. Shoot, I can remember my parents sitting up in the late 1970's playing the original Atari system. I vaguely remember the basketball game but that is what they were always playing. We lost our dad in the early 1980's and my brother and I are always commenting that Dad would have been amazed at how far technology has come. He would have been right in there playing all the new games. For being such a tough guy, he was just a kid at heart.

I remember pong and breakaway or breakout. I can remember my mom complaining the next day that her hand hurt so much from playing. LOL

I remember out first game system and the game was pong. We played that thing by the hour and my dad was always involved. Good times indeed. I hope these game systems are still giving people fond memories of their parents.

I'm thinking she is a little out of touch too. I love legos too and especially with all the cool stuff they have out these days.

I got a kick out of this! Grown men buying legos! Of course, I don't know why it struck me funny, because it is true. (Though many guys do it under the guise of teaching the kids...uh huh. Sure! LOL!)

I don't like Judge Judy anyhow. It's perfectly fine to buy a system for yourself even in your (our) forties. Especially the Wii. It's great exercise while having fun. Don't do the boxing though. It can really frustrate the you know what out of you.

My Sister's kids got a Wii last Christmas..seems fun! re. the boxing game-You can play against a computer opponent or someone else,so you could beat the points outta him :) I had to try it..seems to be a good way of letting off steam and/or getting a workout...

A couple of people mentioned the boxing, now I am curious about it. Could I beat the bejesus out of hubby without physically touching him?

Nothing wrong with that. if a woman played video games and wanted her own system she should get it and let nobody else play on it :)

I don't see anything wrong with that.I see my friend's dad still playing video games and he's already 50 something.he still plays vid games with me and it's so much fun!I'm 20 already and I think that I'm never too old for anything because aside from the fact that I only age in years,I believe that there would always be a child in each and everyone of us.

Well I'm not in my 40's but I just bought a Wii and Gutiar Hero. I also have an X-box and a PS2. I play all three systems. I also play games on my PC I'll probably continue to play these systems long past my 40's. Hell my soon to be MIL was playing Guitar Hero with me and my fiancees brother a few days ago. My dad plays Wii bowling and he's in his 50's So um no there is no age cut off for having fun. She's just retarded is all.

I play PC games but I think interacting with others on game systems is a lot of fun too. It is kind of like the board games of the past bringing families together.

I bought myself a Nintendo DS Lite last November, and I was 49 at the time. My kids are jealous! But I let them play sometimes. BTW - they have Gameboy Advance SPs, so they're not deprived children.

They are wrong. Theres nothing wrong with an old man or old lady to play children plays. I am older than you are and yet I like playing video games, play station, and the computer games. To me it is a way of relieving stress, after a hard days work, of enjoying after all thode problems at home. It also increases your mind to be sharper.

Well there is nothing wrong with that. It is her own enjoyment. My mom usually goes to Casino. So when she found out that my son have a casino in his nintendo she plays alternate with my son and it builds up their granda-son bonding time.

I think that video games are meant for people of all ages. And you should get yourself that nintendo wii.I want one to not only is it a video game but it is a way to get that daily exercise to improve your health so they say. My fiance is 27 and he asked for an Xbox 360 for christmas so I bought it for him he figured it out two weeks before that it was wrapped and under the tree (he's a little bit of a snooper) So he begged me for ours to open it early I let him and lets just say he needs to schedule some family time he loves his system he works all the time and he just likes to come home get his aggresion out on his system and meet new people. He never goes out anymore he's to busy so it's like hanging with the guys in the comfort of your own home...And I love playing them just as much to be quite honest I love playing the games that are a little bit too young for me makes me feel like a kid again. And my grandparent needless to say play there systems to. So no your never to old to play video games unless it gets the better of you. And I think judge Judy should be taken off the air she is so mean.

I remember when my hubby got his first nintendo system. We didn't go out for weeks! I like it when there is a good reason to stay home together and bond.

I'm 29 and my husband is nearly 30.We play games as often as our kids do and can't see it stopping anytime soon.I play online and offline pc games mostly but hubby has a PS2 and is already talking about buying a PS3 when the price goes down a bit more.Puzzle games and sim games are the best for helping us exercise our mind in my opinion especially when our lifestyle doesnt call for much brain work.

Judge Judy is an old fuddy-duddy. You can never be too old for video games! In fact, anyone who says they are too old for games is just an old fart :) Even better reason to play - games keep your brain active and fight off alzheimers! See, games are not just fun, they are helpful too :)

I am 56 and love playing games. I have played video and other games since the kids were little and we had our first atari....for a while I was hung up on playing tetrus....and just lately been playing guitar hero at my nephews....If I liked the games and wanted to purchase them for myself I would! There is no age limit so someone needs to inform Judge Judy she was wrong!

I'm not close to being 40, but I would like to get a WII system myself as well. I know a women from work. She is closer to her 50's. Now she didn't buy this system, but her granddaughter has one. And she really likes playing on it. I think once she mentioned she did boxing on it and it gave her a good workout...You get use the WII in place of those annoying workout videos.

Hi Wiki, Personally there is no age limit. Especially if its a game that you enjoy playing. Not only is it fun for the kids, but also adults as well. And to me, it keeps me from going out and spending money on something that is NOT even worth anything and keeps me sane as well..:) Enjoy your game! I play tons and I am 34 and I will probably play till the day I die..:)

You are never to old to play video games! Now i am only 28 but my mother-n-law who will be 50 this year plays Wii alllll the time. They actually put one in the local bar that we go to and we love to play it on the weekends! Some of her friends have went out and bought game systems for themselves also!
