This is a moral question...

Let's say you bought a vacuum 2 weeks ago. When you excitedly open up the box and put it together, it doesn't work. You try all you can think of to make it start, but fail. So you call the company and talk to someone, they ask you a series of questions and when you tell them what they need to know they tell you that they are going to send you a paid postage label and you needed to return the vacuum to them so they can fix it. After they receive the vacuum they will then send you a replacement, and ALL of this is suppose to take 7-10 business days each time. So you have to wait that long for the label, then you have to wait that long for them to receive the vacuum, then you have to wait that long to receive your new vacuum...it seems like a very long and tiring process. So you decide to exchange it at the store you bought it from, but then your significant other fixes it...YAY!! Ok. Two days later, the label arrives. Then two more days after that, shocking as it is, the vacuum is on your front porch.
So HERE is my question. Would you actually take the label they sent you and send it back, or would you do the despicable thing and KEEP IT (mwa ha ha ha!!) I'm just really curious!! And I want honest answers people!!!

I would try the new one to make sure it worked without a problem then I would keep that one and send the "fixed" one back as it obviously was a lemon needing to be fixed when it was brand new. Who knows what later problems it might develop. I could never keep the 2nd one as my conscience would drive me crazy knowing I had really really stolen one of the vacuums.

That's what I felt when they told me that they'd refurbish it and then send it back to me, that I'd have to try the new one out to make sure it worked! I thought they were going to take my broken-a$$ vacuum, re-fix it, and then send it back!! I was totally surprised to see a new one on my porch. But since the original one that we bought works just fine now, I'm stuck with both of them
I have both good and evil talking to me right now, that's why I'm asking. But because I would feel guilty I'm gonna return it. I was just wondering what others would do.

Wow, glasses from the 1700's!! Now that would be hard not to get a five finger discount!! But like you, it's tempting but no. Just like with me right now, it's tempting but...to be continued! LoL.

I'm confused.
You say it didn't work, so you contacted them and they were going to send you a new one AFTER receiving the old one back.
Are you saying you got the new one without sending the other one back?
And you said you returned it to the store, but your husband fixed it. Can't be both, so which is it?
Anyway - if I got another machine to replace one that was supposedly broken, I'd send one back. No question about it.

Pretty much what it boils down to is that I thought my vacuum was broken, called the company, they sent me a replacement...so now I have 2 vacuums.
I said that I was GOING to return it BUT my fiance fixed it so there was no need to return it. I really didn't think I made that too confusing!!
Thanks for your honest response about sending it back
