My daughter got a tooth pulled today...

She's four. We went to the dentist yesterday because she said that her tooth was hurting. It was hurting so bad that I was giving her tylenol every 4 hours. She was even waking up in the middle of the night when it wore off. She had a cavity so the dentist was going to fill it today. Well, when we got there and the dentist got a closer look she realized it was really bad and infected. She decided to pull it out. My daughter has only had her teeth cleaned and flouride treatments at the dentist's office before. I am so afraid that she is going to be scared to death of the dentist now. I am so upset that she had a cavity bad enough to pull the tooth out. My grandma takes my daughter to school in the morning since I go to work at 6:45 am. She does not make my daughter brush her teeth. My mother also keeps my daughter when I have to work overtime and when I ask if they brushed her teeth, mom says no. I am so frustrated with this situation. I had my daughter brush her teeth twice today. I always have her brush her teeth and never have a problem. My mom says that Bailey will refuse to let her brush her teeth. She has never done this with me. How do I make sure that her teeth are getting clean when I am not around? Any suggestions?

She didn't even utter a sound really til we got to the car. Then she cried. And when we got home, I cried too. It was a pathetic sight I am sure. She appeared to be much better the next day too. And she says she isn't mad at the dentist or afraid of her.

the dentist that pulled my own tooth was gentle but the pain was there for three good days,i never felt any hate towards him and i think that makes it easy to ease the pain ,am happy she is doing better now

When you and your daughter are on your way over to her grandma's, you might remind her to be sure to brush her teeth, because doing so will keep her from having any more bad teeth that hurt until they have to be pulled. What's it with your mom that she won't enforce toothbrushing? Sounds to me as if she just doesn't want to fool with it. Pretty immature, I'd say. Do you have any other places where your daughter can go to be cared for?

yes, I am stressing that. And my mom is now having her brush her teeth. I don't know why she didn't make her. It seems that Bailey doesn't listen to my mohther all too well most of the time. But she does listen to me. Like yesterday, she told my mom that she couldn't drink with a straw b/c her mommy told her she couldn't. And I did since she had a tooth pulled.

Your daughter's health and hygene are vey important and they are your responibility not your mother's. The only way to be sure is to make her do it while you are around. Train her and tell her that if it is not done there will be consequences .

Let me just say duh! But I am a single mom. I work full time. Attend college full time. I am not always around when it is time for her to brush her teeth. How exactly am I supposed to make sure her teeth are being brushed when I am at work. I have told them to make sure it is done. I have gone so far as to set her toothbrush out with toothpaste on it. That does not mean she is brushing her teeth correctly. My grandmother tends to not listen to what I tell her to do.

She needs to think brushing her teeth is cool that way she will do it even if your mom doesnt make her. How about you guys go and pick out her brushing stuff together. Let her get the toothbrush she wants and the cool kids tooth paste and see how that works. Thats what I would try first... Other than that I'd make sure she brushes before you take her and when you pick her up...

She likes to brush her teeth but sometimes forgets. I ask her to do it. She loves to take her vitami and I always tell her that she can't have it til she brushes. She has a motorized toothbrush. one at home and then one at my mom's too. And she does pick her toothpaste. She has barbie toothpaste now. She also always picks her vitamins. We got spiderman today as a matter of fact.

I agree with the above suggestion. I also hope she feels better soon.
