Lunar Eclipse last night 2/20/08 did you see it?

Eclipse taken at 9:48...lol... - eclipse

I had practically a front row seat here in a suburb of Boston, MA. At first I couldn't find the moon at all but finally around 9pm I went out my front door and all I had to do was look up and there it was! Strangely enough the sky was clear and the moon was as bright as it could be. I have a digital camera but it's not a great one so I took a picture at 9 before it really started and then I went outside every 15 minutes or so watching and taking a picture of each phase. Unfortunately for me all I got was a white dot...lol. But at least I got to see it. I thought it was awesome when most of the moon turned a reddish color...that's something I've never seen before and probably never will. Did you see the eclipse last night? Have you ever seen one?

lunar eclipse - this was taken at about 9:45
I'm in Pa, and I did get a few pics of it (got side-tracked just now when I saw this discussion, had to go download my pics lol) they came out pretty good, since I have a 55-200 lens on my camera, however, if I had a telephoto lens they would have come out better.

Thank you, the camera and lens were from my s/o for Christmas, I have been having a blast with it. I had about 8 pictures that came out good, and 2 that I set different settings on my camera and got some great special effects of the moon.

Hello Ctry, Being a huge fan of celestial 'gazing', I anxiously anticipated this eclipse for days, as I do all major celestial events. Sadly, the sky was heavily overcast last night. So, we didn't get even a glimpse of it. Yup, we were mightily disappointed! Last night's eclipse was expected to be very awe-inspiring with regard to color. I'm glad that you got to see some of the reds.

I have to say it looked much like your avatar when it was totally covered. It was the most awesome thing I've ever seen.

That is so funny. We have been talking about it ALL week only to have missed the whole thing. I was too busy watching American Idol and then my husband wanted to watch Shaq play after being injured and we totally forgot about it!!!

lol....I was watching Idol too and got up during the commercials to see it. I didn't want to miss it or American Idol. Living on the first floor and it's being right outside the front door made it easy.

I started watching it when it first started, at 7:43 in Chicago. The sky was clear and the moon was bright. I went out every 15 minutes ti watch the progression of the eclipse. By 9:10 the moon was orange. It was very cool to see and the next one will not be until 2010. This is the first one I have ever seen, as it was in a good timeframe for me. usually they are in the middle of the night and I am sleeping. PEACE

I usually miss them too for whatever reason and I'm happy I got to see this one since it was so different.

I live in England, and it did not happen here until 3.01am so I did not wait up to see it Im afraid! But apparently it was very cloudy here anyway so it was not very visible. Apparently the next one of these eclipses is going to be 2015 so you may get to see it again. I saw the one where the moon or something eclipsed the sun during the day and it went very dark, that was good.

I was reading that there will be a solar eclipse on Aug. 1, 2008. I didn't read the whole article but will later. Maybe you will get to see that one!

We had way too many clouds we could not see the moon at all. This was something we were going to try to see. Next time, perhaps. We do get huge fireball orange moons often in the fall and winter. More so in the fall. Harvest moons.

I did not look outside to see if there was an eclipse or not. The only time we were out was during the day, and then we went or rather my husband was fixing up the basement, so no one went outside to check to see if the moon was missing or not. Anyway I do not have a decent camera and I have no idea how to operate the digital camera, not near-sighted as my husband who can see all those small buttons - but I guess it must have been a sight!

Yes, we did see it. It was an amazing sight and it was neat for the kids to see. My oldest daughter was so excited to see it. Since we are a home school family, this was a great sceince lesson!

I listen to a lot of late-night talk radio, ctry, and the news of the anticipated lunar eclipse was highly publicized leading up to it. I did not, however, get a chance to see it. I have seen a lunar eclipse before, and they are interesting. I think that most everything that has to do with the heavens has always held a certain amount of interest for me. I'm happy that you finally got a chance to experience this.

Yes, and I was always amazed at the beauty of the moon..when it is a Full moon i often gaze at the sky..in 1865 Feb. they had no full moon..this always seemed strange to me..an omen? but i have been in other parts of the world and the full moon seems bigger..and brighter..air condition ? pollution? smog? who knows..in Florida ..Miami is close to the equaitor make a difference? well, i enjoy the moon and the stars as they hold a lot of mystery

It was a PERFECT night here in the Pacific Northwest. I only got to see it about 1/3 though as I had to get my wee son home and get dinner and him in bed. By the time I was home it was over. DANG! My friends said is was pretty amazing though.

I did remember to go out side to check it out. It had a good start when I remembered it. It was awesome to see. I had never seen one before. I was surprised that you could still see the surface of the moon when it was covered. The color was strange too but beautiful. Since I didn't just stay out and watch it continually I though I had missed the second half, but I did go out and check again and saw it being uncovered. I also got to see a solar eclipse when I lived in Kansas back in 93 or 94 I think it was. I also watched Hale-Bop comet back about that time too.

We didn't get to see it, because it was too cloudy that night. We heard a lot about it on the news, and read a lot about it on the internet, but because of the weather here, we were unable to see it. Come to think of it, with my poor distance vision, I wouldn't have been able to see it anyway.

Lunar Eclipse - With 2 Stars
I also took a photo at 10.08PM there are also two stars(?) visible. I was pretty red but my photo did not pick it up. When I was young in Scotland I saw a rare blue moon.

I have seen a few. Last night's wasn't thrilling to watch. My mom asked me how it looked because she heard that it looked like the moon was on fire. Um...not here any way...but it was a beautiful night here.

Unluckily, I am not able to see Lunar Eclipse, I failed too to read information here about it. But I wish I was able too, as it would be nice to see it from above. I remember when I was in college, everytime we know there is a lunar eclipse or other astronomical thing happen and we know, we all position in the balcony of the dorm and wait for it to appear. It is just fun.
