A while back, Disney claimed it was through making 2d animation films (after such disapointments as Treasure Planet and Home on the Range). However, they are now in the works of at least two new such films. The first is The Frog Princess. The second is Rapunzel. Of the two, I believe that Rapunzel shows great promise. Producers, the same ones that worked on The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast, have stated that this will be a classic fairytale, free from pop-culture references. What are your thoughts? Is 2D disney animation going to make a comeback or does Disney just not have it anymore?

As long as Disney stops making sequels to classics in a vain attempt to bring themselves back from whatever hole they've dug themselves into, I'm okay.
(None of the films that they've made sequels for, except for maybe the Lion King or Lady & the Tramp 2, had any actual room or reason for a sequel. If you can think of another that fits/served a purpose, please let me know. I've just generally boycotted Disney sequels ever since.)
Honestly, though, in today's society I think Pop culture references are almost necessary, as are bad jokes and bathroom humor. Society's taste for entertainment seems to be going down the tubes... In some instances, at least.

I know what you mean about the pop culture and crude humor. Disney had a great thing going with its classics. They were, for lack of a better word, magical.

Since I was a kid, I really loved Disney's animated films. They are the kind that really attracts the public. However, 2d animation would be out of the 'trend' and probably, it won't attract much people to watch, because majority of the public nowadays look for 'high-quality graphics' in films. Actually, I'm one of those people who look for both 'high-quality graphics' and 'above-the-standard story plot'. As an artist (who loves graphic design), I appreciate if they would do 3d animation for their coming films because it would attract multitudes of people. Well, it just amazes me how Disney does their 3d.

I have been seeing a commercial for a new movie coming out on DVD only about some talking puppies that looks really cute and a new one with Jim Carey doing the voice of Horton in Horton Hears a Who coming out in March. I don't know if that's a Disney movie or not though.
