I went by a gas station that was at 3.13 on Saturday, it was 3.17 on Tuesday when I went to work (I was off Sunday and Monday) and 3.23 yesterday.
I know there was a fire in a refinery in Texas, but this is getting ridiculous. They were telling us last summer that gas would hit $4 a gallon, luckily that never happened. Now I watch the prices go up and no one is saying anything.
I drive almost 50 miles round trip for work a day, I am feeling trapped by these prices. Anyone out there feeling the same way?

Where I'm living we're up around 6.00 a gallon. That's the reason I do very little driving these days. If we had any kind of a government at all they could put a stop to this foolishness but WHY they're reaping rewards right? It's absolutely ridiculous. I know people have to work and have to get to the job, I get that but if everyone would absolutely refuse to drive for even 3 days, you'd be surprized what that could do. Take care my friend.

OUCH! Yes, I agree. THe government seems not to care. What amazes me is that we are in an election year (can't wait for it to end) and they seem to be ignoring the situation. The government will send us checks to get the economy moving...big whoop. Control interest rates and gas prices. Help us feel secure and the economy will come around.

Blackbay, thank you...I could not have said it better. I lost my job several years ago to an offshore company. I now earn 40% of what I did before, I am in my mid-50's and should be thinking about retirement...but now i fear it will never happen. I have no disposable income, I am slowing down the economy

One way to get the Economy moving is everyone has to Demand products being made right at home....in our Countries.....never mind Cheap Imports from China and Mexico....put the people to work in our own Countries....spend our own money. It's all gonna come to an end eventually but not in a positive way.Everyone is stretched to the limit as it is.

Yes, I too feel trapped by the rising gas prices. Needless to say, our salaries are not rising at the same rate as the gas prices so many of us are really being squeezed. It is shameful the way the government is handling this crisis. It is also shameful that we have become so dependent on petroleum based products in general, not just gas. We could do a lot to decrease the consumption of petroleum by cutting our use of products that require petroleum in their manufacturing process, but we just don't seem to want to make that sacrifice! (pastic bags, plastic bottles and more)

Ohhh, good idea! I hadn't even thougth about CDs. Thanks for reminding me that they too, require petroleum. The everyday things which require petroleum to be manufactured, that we could obviously do without, are so many that it is amazing. Thanks again. No more CDs for me or my loved ones!

Yes, you are right, we are way to dependent on petroleum based products.
There are so many little things we can do that would make a difference if we all did them. I for one won't buy CDs anymore. THey are made of oil based products, the cases are too. The transportation of them uses even more. I download them.

And how would you suggest I get to work, since I work in the middle of nowhere? The last time the fire alarm accidentally went off, it took over 12 minutes for EMS to respond.
That may work where you live, but not here.

Haha! Can't help but laugh on the title you put here, it seems that you're also getting affected by these oil crisis. Well here in my country, that's been a problem for more than a decade now. The whole nation's complaining and there's nothing we could do about it, so it's the concerned individual that took the step in looking for other alternatives.
Right now, we have lots of options to power and make our vehicles drive around environment-friendly as it's cheaper without using crude oil and gasoline.
We have other options like LPG-powered cars, battery-powered, solar-powered and water-powered automobiles.

Since our we are considered as a third-world country, we lack on government support and fundings. So to make good use of these inventions made by my fellow countrymen, they seek outside sources and sell the "patents" to those who are willing to continue and develop their inventions.
The car only requires some calibrations for it to be fitted by a specific device, you don't need to buy new ones..

Even if we had those options, I could not afford a new vehicle at this time.
Now I do have a question for you, if your country has those things, such as solar-powered cars etc...why aren't they exporting them? Or at least selling the technology and making wads of money on them? I would be doing that if I could!

LOL, In my case yes. My truck has been down for a few months as it needed a new fuel pump. It was a pretty expensive fix, so I delayed it as long as possible. Now that it's fixed, I had to put 5 galons of SUPER in the tank to keep it from running so rough with old gas in it. I was shocked when I found it to be $3.05/gal. All I can say is, I'm glad I only had to do that once because at $2.89/gal for regular unleaded, it'll take $90 to fill it up. OUCH!!!
Luckily, I'm not making a 60 mile a day commute to work anymore or it would be costing me a fortune as I was having to fill it up twice a week.

You are lucky you are not in NY, Here the premium is running close to $3.50 a gallon.
I am running about 60 for a fill-up. What are you driving - a hummer?

Our gas prices were going down for awhile, but now they seem to be going back up. Our prices are a little over $3.00 here in Nevada. I'm sure they will be going up even higher soon. I actually quit my job when the prices started going up because my job commute was over 100 miles round trip.

I read a few weeks ago that prices went down 9 cents that week, ours went down less then 2 cents and now they are going up incredibly fast.
My employer does not care how far we drive, I work with the developmentally disabled and they have people driving 35-40 miles a day to one group home and in doing so, they drive by 2 group homes to get to the one where I work, yet they have someone on the same road within walking distance. She has to drive about 25 miles to where she works. If they reworked their logistics the employees could save money and everyone could save someone gas.

They have the market that's the trouble, there is no competition, if only we could fill up with water, tea, coffee or something, but no they know we rely heavily on gas/petrol so they can bully and lay the law down as much as they want because they know we have no alternative, we can't go elsewhere, we either drive or we don't simple as that, and they can be as greedy as they like. Not as if you can go to one store buy a chicken for $4 and go to another store and buy the same chicken for $1. Petrol in the UK is £1.05 now and they have the monopoly and the government won't step in because they get a good percentage of it, so it's a lose lose situation, we are being held hostage, it angers me. Hopefully someone can come up with an alternative to gas to teach those greedy oil companies a lesson!

I agree, the government gets a share and you know the people who make the policy don't have to scrimp and save like us. So we take a beating.

It is getting really rediculous. My husband has to drive the same as you. We have to have at least $50 a week, just for him to go to work. We also have a handicap van to take my son to his appointments and therapies and they are at least 1/2 hour to 2 hours away. It takes $120 to fill it and only lasts 2 weeks. That is alot out of a paycheck.

Ouch, that handicap van sounds like a real killer. And it is nothing something that you have a choice on either.
Someone ought to be stepping in and taking control. And in the heat department, it costs me in 2 months to heat my house what it did for a whole year before.

You stoled the show today. You couldn't say it better.
I am looking for small electric scooter to drive.
I feel like pretty soon visitors to gas stations will be treated like movie stars, because only few will tank...

That is true, few will be able to afford a fill-up. I am lucky, my minivan gets pretty good gas mileage, but it is also 10 years old and getting up in the mileage department. Soon, I will have to add insult to injury...high gas places plus a car payment.

Gas prices have ridiculously gone up. Where i live it's up to 3.11 when only a week ago it was around 2.79. It's absolutely ridiculous. I had to fill my truck up today and it cost me 72.00 to fill it up. I just about crapped. It's insane. I don't understand why they keep doing this and i so would boycott getting gas if i didn't absolutely have to have it to get my kids the places they need to go. When is it ever going to end? Never, I know, but they need to start thinking about the people that need to go to work. they are gonna end up spending their whole paychecks on gas instead of being able to pay bills and stuff like that. the madness on gas prices needs to end. I remember when we all got disgusted cause it got up to two dollars, but this is just down right crazy how high they are getting now. thanks for posting. i've done my ranting for the night now. LOL! God bless

I guess you are too young to remember when we stood in line for hours - because gas was going to hit .50 a gallon, then it was a dollar a gallon. My son is 22, and a few years ago we actually got gas for .99 a gallon. Gas has roughly tripled in price in the past 10 years. That is sad.
I am glad your ranting here made you feel better.

i definitely don't remember it being under a dollar, but i do remember it being around 1.38 and now just being at that, at this point, would be a blessing. it's absolutely ridiculous having to pay that much just because you have to have it.

Yes, gas prices are a bit rediculous. But I came to terms with this, that it will probably be like this for a long while. Although I don't like paying these prices, I've gotten tired of complaining about it. Last time I got gas I got it when it went down some. It was at $2.93 and right now it is at $3.15. That is a huge increase for just one week. But it'll come down again eventually, then it will go up again. A never ending cycle. But unfortunately it doesn't come out even. It slowly creeps higher and higher. I wish I had the money to buy a scooter. Then I wouldn't have to buy and use as much gas.

I know complaining does not help, but it is an election year, where are the promises of doing something about the gas prices. They could have the courtesy to at least pretend they care.
I would like to try a segway, they look like great fun and you can plug them in anywhere.

Oh my goodness don't even start...the gas price is crazy. People can't even eat because they have to save the money to buy gas so they can get to work to earn money to buy more gas for work basically most ppls are working for gas...sadly enough we can't change the facts. I hope and pray that there is a solution but as for now I have seen none to today.

i guess so !

If beemers go down to 20000, my guess is the whole world is in a deep recession and no one will have 20000 to spend on a house, much less a car.
Your government helps it citizens? How?

from what I hear gas prices will be about 4 something a gallon. It is unbelieveable the cost of gas. So what we do is just not go much make sure that what we need we get when we are out. When it cost you 65.00$ a fill up you want to hold on to that gas for as long as you can.

I heard that they a predicting $4.00 by summer. I drive about 30 miles round trip. My usual car gets about 30 mpg. probably 25 in this nasty weather. I do not like the price of gas, I also do not like the time spent commuting. I hope to announce something different one of these days. The job I drive out of town for is the one that pays the most per hour and carries my benefits. My job with disabled adults is here in town, and I can probably get full time there. I just am waiting for summer. I have a contract at the other job. If I got really ambitious, I would bicycle to the in town job.
