My little girl is 2yrs old and can only say few words- mum, dad, thankyou, hello and goodbye..the very basics. Is it strange for my daughter to have such a good memory that she can copy and repeat a tune, but not actual words. She makes the 'sound' of words..hard to explain but she copies my tone of voice and what comes out of her mouth sounds just like 'hello darlin' for example, but it's the sound and not actual words(apart from the hello).
She adores watching hi-5(which can drive me insane after a while lol). Also i have always sung to her,'twinkle twinkle' and she can sing that tune perfectly. My sons taught her the 'ABC' song and she loves singing that. She also makes up her own songs.
As gorgeous as it is,it would be good to hear of anyone elses experiences with young ones and their speech.Share funny moments too,i love some things the littlies come out with.

Wow,your nephew sounds like he is gifted or something! That's funny you mention the music while pregnant..i love music but not classical..loud with a beat is how i like it or a power ballad.I listen to music loud when i clean the house and did this while pregnant and still do so that would explain why she is so musical i guess.
I worry a little that she isn't speaking more than she is but i talk to her all the time,i point to things and tell her what they are.I think it comes down to them doing things when they are ready to.
I think your nephew is too rapt up in learning everything else, the toilet is so not important to him!

Haha, yes i know!I was very impatient waiting for my now 5 yr old to talk.He had delayed speech and had what us at home called the 'Nummer Nummers'lol..It was 'Nummer nummer nummer nummer...car','Nummer,nummer..cat'..he knew to form sentences but couldn't say all the words-this is what made me strt to worry about my girl..Now he just doesn't shut up and yaps about everything he sees!!It's good that it's not all 'nummer nummers' though!

Oh my... my daughter is also crazy about hi-5... and she can sing and dance along with them... and like your daughter... she can't talk properly yet... but has this aptitude of singing and imitating sounds...
I even have a record of a somewhat song she made up by herself... watching hi-5 must be one of the reasons why our daughters developed this early love for music...
Her father is also reinforcing this by letting her play with the keyboard from time to time...

I don't think there is anything to worry about... my daughter would sometimes demand her grandparents to turn on the Magic Sing (Karaoke Microphone)... and she would just babble some tune... oh my... we might have pop singers in the future... and i think that would be great...

Happy birthday to your daughter for Monday!!It is really a very good thing that they can memorise a tune or melody,it means that more than likely, all the other information is there too-they just arent ready to show it.Their voices are just gorgeous at this age when they sing aren't they? I just love listening to it:)I will be so shocked when she puts the actual words in after just hearing her baby talk songs for so long!
