I'm sorry I haven't been around the past couple of days, but my desktop PC is having problems. When I try to sign on to the Internet I receive this message:
The computer's modem is being blocked from connecting".
As I am on dial-up I thought it was the phone line, but found out last night that it is not. I have no idea why it is doing this and I need help resolving this problem. So if you know what could be wrong, please help. Thank you in advance. :)
To make this a discussion has anyone ever encountered this problem before and were you able to fix it?

I'm very late answering this and you obviously have a response because you had to be on-line to post this.
Whenever I encounter any connection problems, I first check all my wires and connections, phone plugs etc and make sure they are plugged in then I call my ISP and talk to the help desk. You pay for this service so you might as well make use of it.

I'm using my husband's laptop to post all this. My desktop is still out of service. I'll have to call my ISP tomorrow as it's too late to do so tonight. Hopefully they can help me figure out what's going on. Thanks. :)

I did both of these things and it still doesn't work. And the scan came up clean with no viruses.

Have you tried system restore? What it does, it takes your computer to a certain date, which you choose, and restores the settings of that time. In other words, if you know when it was working correctly then you can go back to that time and it should fix your problem. Here are the steps:
Start button, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore, then it's self explanetory from there. Try it, it should do the trick!

I have not encounter such kind of problem. I do believe that exploring your computer and asking help on internet might help because they can give you advises as what to do, but it would be best to call computer technician and do the repair. If you do it by yourself it will take time, but if computer technician will do it, it might be solve soonest and you can get back on the internet the soonest.

Really? I'd hate to get a new one for my computer as it's not even a year old yet. But I'll look into it. Thanks!

sorry to hear that you're having problem with your internet connection, but if you're using external modem try to unplug it to the power source and leave it for at least 30 seconds, then replug it back again. Or you better call your ISP to check on your modem. Hope it will fix! God Bless!

I had this problem (and I don't remember how I "fixed" it) a few months ago. We have DSL at home, but for some reason the modem was trying to connect (even though it didn't have a phone line going to it) as well. It was worse when I tried to get on through AT&T (after they took over SBC - again), so I just kept pulling up the Internet through Firefox, which "knew" the computer was always connected. It may be that I checked my Network Connections and turned off the modem. I won't swear to it, but I think that might have worked.
