My boyfriend and I have recently dined at a Hibachi restaurant, the Japanese restaurant where they cook the food on the table in front of you, and ever one I've been to has this same oriental dressing on their salad. It's delicious to say the least. It's an orangey and thick dressing. But not like thousand island thick, more like there is substance to it. And it's a much darker orange, almost brown. My boyfriend thought it to be a peanut dressing of some sort and we have bought two peanut dressings from oriental markets with no luck. They turn out to be spicey in a way and have completely ruined our salads. This dressing was sweet and light, but really good. Please help. I'm craving for it something bad!

I'm not sure what it's called either. You should have asked the restaurant staff about it. But I doubt if the name will be in English. Lol.

It sounds like it is oriental duck sauce. You can find it in the etnic aisle of any major grocery store. If that doesn't taste like it, go back to the restaurant and ask for the name of the dressing. Good luck :)

A lot of restaurants are very proud to give out their recipes, as it's an acknowledgment of how good their food is. Do some good ranting and raving, slather them with compliments, and more than likely they will give you the recipe! It's worked for me many times! We have a lovely French Restaurant on our Island, I asked her for a recipe using all the above techniques, but she refused to share. SOOO, what I did was write Gourmet magazine, they contacted her, her recipe was published in Gourmet and she has a plaque now, from Gourmet, that she proudly displays in her restaurant. Remember, flattery gets you a lot of what you want.

I'm just guessing, but could it be some kind of sweet and sour sauce? Or some kind of mandarin orange sauce?
