i was in amsterdam last february and it was cooold!!!! but i had a great time! i only got to see one old-time wooden windmill, and almost got run over by all the bicycles!! but the street food was great, and the bars were fun, and the city was beautiful!! the hotel where we stayed had stairs so steep it was like climbing up a ladder!! and we were on the third floor! not fun with luggage. but it was 400 years old, so it was interesting and our room had a balcony that looked out on a canal.

The Netherlands is one of my favorite places in the world. Amsterdam is filled with historic sites to visit, the red light district is one big party, the bicycle paths in the Netherlands are the best in the world (that I know of), the tulips, the windmills, the witches dunking chair.. mega photo opportunities.. just about everyone speaks English so there is never a language barrier even if you do not speak other languages fluently..

Lots. I grew up there but I left when I was a teenager. Small country, mainly flat, about 16,000.000 inhabitants. Speak a funny language called Dutch, which sounds like someone with a bad cough bringing up phlegm. Eat a lot of liquorice and ginger cake for breakfast. Amsterdam a very interesting city in all sorts of ways. A great little country where all my family (bar me) live. Visit it if you have not been there yet. The people are really friendly and most of them (including me) speak English.

I know quite a lot about that country. I live in Germany -not that far away from the border- and I study Dutch; I've lived in the Netherlands (in Utrecht) for 6 months.
To put it in a nutshell: Great city (cities), great country, great ppl, great language! :D
