When I was younger, It seemed kids had more respect for elders and parents, we worked hard for things we wanted, we were thankful, and a bit more paitent. Granted I am only 28, so I am still fairly young. Even people in my age group seem to have the I want it now complex. They want what they want, with disregard for anyone else. Relationships and long lasting friendships are a thing of the past. Marriages last 2 years if we are lucky, because our motto is..if it doesn't work replace it. Why bother to fix it. How do you feel about this? Do you think it will improve or get worse? Or do you think this new attitude is right?

It has been a steady decline since we were children. I teach my children to respect their elders and adults in general and they do. They have manners. They don't have a fit when they get told NO and they appreciate the things they do get. I'd like to think these lessons I teach them will stick with them well into their adulthood but sadly I think that by the time they have started families of their own these ideals will be a thing of the distant past.

You are one of the few parents left that tell their kids no! Thank you for doing that!

I'm with you. The world seems to have gone crazy! I'm 60 years old and get no respect even when I'm walking down the street. Kids think nothing of practically knocking me over. No, I don't think it will ever change and they do need to be taught respect at least for their elders.

I'm so sorry they act that way :( I wish I could slap my generation into shape...or something.

It is definitely the way people raise their kids today. I mean I was taught to say thank you, please, excuse me, and open doors and hold them for the elderly. My boyfriend puts my jacket on me, opens my door, and does so many things for me that it makes me feel special and yet he's chiverlous and wonderful. There arent too many men who would do things like that and its the way ppl are raised.

I think young people today and in the coming generation will display worst character. Hollywood is affecting every area of their life and it seems that they pattern their lifestyle with those celebrities! But I believe there are also many who receives excellent training from their home and their church. I can still see people with character!

Oh yeah, there are a few rare cases where people raise their kids right still. It's so hard here though. I hate to say this as an american, but our morality is going down the drain. Divorce rates going up, and God is almost a dirty word.
