What do you know about Belgium?

Belgium

Whenever people ask me where I'm from, and I say Belgium, I see the doubt on their face. Is he serious? Is that a real country, and if so, where is it. I just wonder what the myLot community knows about my birthplace....

Or I could write a rant about the diamond exchange in Antwerp and the global manipulation of the gem market.

Can you explain "Benelux" and differentiate between Flemish and Dutch? ... in life, everyone encounters their own Waterloo ...

Benelux is basically BElgium-NEderland-LUXemburg and has no political nor financial nor whatever meaning. It is just used as a combined name for these 3 countries. Flemish and Dutch.... Flemish does NOT exist. It is exactly the same as Dutch. It would be the same as saying English, American and Australian are 3 different languages. There obviously are words typical for each one of them and they're 3 dialects of the same language. The same goes for Flemish and Dutch.

I have been to Belgium many times. I really like the beautiful city of Brugge and the coastal city of Ostend. I also liked the lovely city of Gent which was not that touristy. I have been to the nice city of Antwerp as well. I have been to the charming city of Namur and the pretty town of Dinant. I liked to see the stunning looking architecture. I have been to the capital city, Brussels. I went to Brugge a total of three times, in the summer time with my sister, in the autumn time on my own when I was studying in the Netherlands and in the winter with a friend. It snowed whilst my friend and I were there. I liked seeing the amazing architecture, the pretty canals and the scenic countryside. When I lived in Kent I was near to the train that goes from Ashford to Brussels and it was a nice way to get there. Years ago I had to go by ferry from Dover to Ostend.

We could discuss the North Atlantic Treaty Organization that is headquartered in Brussels.

I went on holiday to Ostende many years ago and it was beautiful and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The people were very helpful and friendly. To this day I have one of the most amazing pictures taken there. Lovely country and I learnt such a lot.

Well I live just across the water from Belgium, living in England. Have been a few times by ferry into Ostend, and then on the way to Germany or Austria, I have stayed in Bruges for a few days. The thing I remember most about Belgium though is Brussels, as a Liverpool fan I went and visited the Heysel Stadium. Whilst I was there I saw the Atomium though I didn't go up it.
