Where do you get your ideas from?

I could very easily just pick up a pattern and follow the instructions and recommendations for fabrics etc etc and be done with it but for me thats just not personal enough and so not my way of doing things LOL...Yesterday my gf back home, knowing how much I LOVE Pin Up and vintage style clothes stumbled upon a website and immediately emailed me the link LOL...and WOW am I EVER GLAD she did!! Much of the clothes are a little pricey but the reason she sent it wasnt so I could shop but rather so I could get ideas for my sewing...I officially have ideas a plenty!

when you sew do you just follow the pattern or do you make up your own or maybe just add your own flare to it etc etc?

Well I haven't actually made any clothes yet. I started once - a maternity dress for me then when I miscarried I abandoned it.
Every time I read one of your sewing discussions I want to run out and get materials and start making things!!
Oh I almost forgot! I did make a banshee costume a couple of Halloweens ago but I haven't worn it yet. The Halloween I made it for I wasn't feeling good on the day of. It turned out pretty decent considering I had no pattern :) I was modeling it after the costume Alyssa Milano wore in the "Look Who's Barking" episode of Charmed. It was exactly like it or low cut but I wanted the general idea of it.
I LOVED that dress!!!! It was beautiful!!! I love a lot of vintage things too :)

well I tend to get ideas from some very strange places. A friend of mine is a conceptual artist and quite a few of her designs are the stimulus for a lot of things i make. Also, another friend of mine (sadly now in spirit) used to work as an interior designer, lol. Many of his designs have found there way in to my pattern book
blessed be

I don't really sew like that.I did however make a quilt once. I used my kids baby clothes and it came out pretty good for the first time. I'm glad you got some great idea's for new things to make.

I have no idea where my ideas come from. All I know is that late at night my ideas start to kick in, and they just keep coming, but certain people are different.

I usually just see something I like, and I try to duplicate it. For example, I saw on Friends one time that There was a letter E hanging on the wall, that looked puffy, kind of like a pillow. So I took some left over fabric I had from curtains I made for my son's room and made a pillow in the shape of his initial, and I hung it on his wall.
I also watch DIY. They have lots of craft shows, including one all about making funky clothing and accessories, and I get ideas from there. More often they are techniques, but I apply them to other projects I want to try.
