AI (artificial insemination) and AID (artificial insemination by donor) are both wonderful options for those suffering from infertility. I am well informed on it and have no issues with it. Having suffered 9 years of infertility myself, anything to help a couple have the baby they want is fine by me. As long as the couple involved is happy with the method of treatment, that is all that really matters...it is a personal choice between them. (I'm an R.N.)

Can I say = congrat's - do you have your baby now?
What I was wondering about - the methods - do you not have any fears about some chemichal or lab grown that will find the path in together with the natural sperm. Is it only natural sperm and egg merging or is there some help from manmade stuff?

I am very glad all worked out well for you - thanx for the very thorough info.
So am I right in saying that trough all - the complications, fear, treatment and close call - it was all worth the while?
:) :) :)

Yes, it was definitely all worthwhile! I would have risked it all again but the doctor said he would only put me through the fertility process again if my husband and I signed an informed consent stating that we were aware that, the next time, the baby and I would probably not survive and that we would not hold the hospital or physician liable. I never would have to start with...I knew what I was facing. But husband wouldn't sign as he didn't want to end up without me.
We are very happy and grateful for what we do have, each other, our oldest son (who was not "homemade") and for your youngest, Christopher.

Anything that creates life is cool by me. The only thing that concerns me is what is done with unused embryos. I don't really know what happens, but it would make me sad if they were just destroyed. They could be donated to other couples whose eggies or spermies don't work.

this is what concerns me - the anything that creates life part - how natural is the substances used?
What one hears about things created scientifically out of natural substances but add a little of this and that - are we not heading for a dissaster tempering with the natural order of things?

Artificial insemination is simply inserting the sperm by medical means. There is no guarantee of conception. Invetro fertilization is where they actually fertilize the eggs outside of the woman's body and implant them. Depending upon your understanding of where life begins, this may make you uncomfortable. But, consider that in nature there are undoubtedly many fertilized eggs that never implant and are flushed out by a woman's cycle. When life begins is a question we will most likely be debating for a long time, since it is a question we cannot prove or disprove at this time.

I'm not so familiar either and I respect another persons personnal decissions.
I want to know how natural it is and the influence on the natural order of things in the long run.

See, that is what I want some comments on.
Is it artificial being natural sperm and egg merging with some help
or
Artificial - not total natural egg and sperm anymore. what is added or not? And what will be the influence on the long run...

So I think at the end of the day with all these possitive comments - one can conclude that the love for the new life overrules all other fears and possible complications...
