A new study suggests that owning a cat can decrease that chances of you having a heart attack by nearly a third. This has been a 10 year study involving more than 4,300 Americans that reveals that the stress-relief that pets provide humans is healthy for your heart. This may also be true with "man's best friend" aka dog, but not enough research has been done to date.
Do you own a cat or a dog and do you think they can lower your stress that can lead to a heart attack?

Well, its pretty simple, owning a pet relieves the stress that you are building up, too much stress can lead to health problems, one of the most popular it being a heart attack, so if you have less stress, you'll have less chances of receiving a heart attack. Its a good thing pets are able to do that since many people own a cat or a dog and it can benefit both members. Hope this helped answer your question.

Hi...and warm greetings to a new Mylot member who is posting in support of animals..good to have you here.
Wow...this is indeed good news...does having 5 cats mean my hubby and I will have additional health benefits...because that is how many we have. We also have one large dog. At one time we had as many as four dogs at one time and we truly believe all pets enhance the quality of life.
This is not the first study to come about about how pets improve not only the quality...but the length of life. Anyone who has cats knows that there is nothing quite like the calming feeling they bring when they curl up on your tummy or lap and start purring. Ours also know when we have 'ouch' spots...because they will lie on the very spot that hurts. They are intuitive and I can see why this ten year study is valid if anecdotal stories have any weight.
I have included a photo of some of ours...luv, luv, luv our pets!

Thank you for the warm greeting Perspectives. If having multiple animals helps then I am happy for you, the less heart attacks, the better. I agree with you, having a cat around the house does bring some happiness from the simplest actions that they do. I checked out the picture and I must say, you are very lucky to have such beautiful cats:)
