that the main acting awards went to non American actors?Daniel Day Lewis,Marion Cotillard,Javier Bardem, and Tilda Swinton all are from abroad. I think it is great and sad at the same time. What do you think this means? Are American actors picking the wrong type of roles, the popular light fare instead of the meatier , Oscar worthy roles? In any case it was a great night for fine acting.

I think the Academy is just recognizing the talent of non-Americans. Also, many of the other awards went to non Americans. The two that won for best song were just overwhelmed. I thought it was superb that Jon Stewart called the woman back out to speak and what a wonderful speech she gave about achieving your dreams!

I thought that was great. I guess they were good on time . And the speech she gave was worth hearing. Her partner looked familiar. It took a me a while to figure it out.Did you see the movie The Commitments? He was the guitarist in that film.

It should have been easier for me to recognize him , in the movie he has long red hair and I Love redheads.

Isn't it fantastic? I remember hearing about how great it was when Sophia Loren won for Two Women. It was a foreign film and she won the best actress Oscar. And now, a sweep of the acting Oscars going to actors from abroad.

I think that many of the great American actors have been sleeping lately, or doing B+ jobs.
One surprise that I actually liked was Casey Affleck. I think most of his roles were lame and kitschy, but I think he really deserved that nomination.

Thinking back i just realized there not only non american actor winner but for almost everything else. I guess this was just the year of everyone else, and perhaps not a good year for america. Either way it was amzzing to see such an array of actors wokring together with mostly american production companies to make really great films.
