How many hours of sleep do you need to function?

I pulled my fingers away from the keyboard and mylot about 2:30 in the morning. Its 5a now and I'm up to go to my workshop, but couldn't resist getting in a few words in with my first cup of coffee. Its a wonder this is coherent. I know for all certainty there will be hell to pay come this afternoon since I got so little sleep. How many hours of sleep do you personally need to function? I'd say I need at least 6 in order to pull off my day, but there have been times I've worked with less, this being one of them. If you can pull yourself away from mylot, how many hours do you spend sleeping?

I can function on 2 or 3 hours of sleep which is pretty much how i've been ever since I can remember..However now that I've been on sleeping meds which of course help me sleep a bit longer if I DONT take them and end up only getting the 2 or 3 hours I dont seem to function AS WELL as I use to...

2-3 hours? Are you kidding? Maybe when I was younger, but us old people need more than that now. LOL.

you need a lot of sleep to get your metabolism to function normally.
as for me, i need a minimum of 8 hrs of sleep, but oftentimes especially now that i am working, i only get 6 hours, which i think is still short for me or i'll end up turning myself anemic again.

Any special reason you aren't getting as much sleep as you would like to? Sometimes its hard to fit enough hours in the day, isn't it?

I wish I could always get 8 but dont want to waste time sleeping lol! I can function on 5. I normally get 6. (bed at midnight up at 6) not by choice but for my job. But on the weekends I make up for it and sleep in late. I do love to sleep.

It really all depends on what I have to do the next day...if i just have to sit around home for the day or do something that isn't hard on the computer..I don't have to have but a few hours of sleep to get by..but if it were something else..that is really important or have to go somewhere and am gonna have a long day..i will need more sleep

Normally I get 6-8 hours a sleep everynight, but last night was an exception. I don't know why I did that to myself knowing I had a full day ahead of me.

Wolfie likes to hibernate for a minimum of 9 hours! I love my sleep too much, I can easily sleep longer but I have to get up otherwise it's affect my body for the rest of the day. I think I may have CFS which makes me want to sleep more. If I get anything less than 9 I am a very grouchy, grumpy wolf indeed. I sleep more in the winter than the Summer. I used to stay up till 2am or later on the computer but now I have changed I turn the computer off at 12, sometimes earlier NO later that way I can get more sleep in and wake up at a decent time in the morning!

i use to suffer from insomnia when i was younger. until I had my second child. back then if i got two hours I was ok. now I need at least 6 hours to be able to function like a normal person durning my 8 hour work day. I don't know if it is age, three kids, a husband, a full time job, or working on my new web business, but I so need to get me a good nite sleep

I can function at three hours of sleep. I automatically wake up when I have been sleeping for three hours. I am not tired and I am ready to go. I don't drink coffee of any kinds. Once in awhile I get a taste for a coppecino and I will get one when I get a taste for one. But I don't drink coffee as a norm. It is hard for me to pull myself away from this site. I get very caught up in looking at the different discussions and responses.

I know I am addicted. When I get off of work the first thing on my mind is getting home to come here. Also first thing in the morning it is the same thing. I love this site and spend a lot of time here. My husband likes to watch television which I watch to some degree. Not like him but my time is spent mostly on the computer and most of that time is spent here.

Personally I only need about 5 hours of sleep and they do not need to be one after another. If I get less than 5 hours I am usually pretty groggy.

I usually get about 9-10 hours of sleep. I NEED at least 6-7 hours. I can function on a lot less than that but I tend to get grumpy and/or overly emotional when I am tired. I have set up our schedule so that this is pretty easy to accomplish on most days.

4 hours is enough for me. when i got older, i felt that i needed less time to be able to give my system a good push. but when i was younger -- it's like the hours in a day isn't enough. LOLZ. whenever i wake up, the first thing i get myself is a cup of coffee -- of course after washing my face and brushing. im a caffeine junkie. and it's like fuel for me.

I've survived on much less over a period of time, but I find if I don't have to set an alarm, I wake up naturally between 7-8 hrs.
While in the Marine Corps there were several occasions when I went days/weeks without decent sleep. I can't sleep during the day no matter how much I try, and if I was on an exercise and on nights, forget it. I set the record once in my unit for not having a minute of shut-eye for 54 hours I think it was.
I was a basket case and totally non-functioning at that point, but I couldn't do anything about it.
Yep, you need a 12-step program. 'Hi, my name is Kathy, and I'm a myLot-aholic'.

To function all day long including a full day of work, I usually need at least 4-5 hours of sleep. I prefer about 7 hrs, and feel great with 8.

I've always been the type to run on very little sleep. Growing up my bed time would be 8 p.m and I would stay up until midnight most nights just because I didn't want to go to bed. By the time I was in high school I was going to bed by 3 in the morning and had to be up and at school by 7:30.
Now that I'm an adult with three kids, I'm still running on little sleep, usually 3-4 hours a day. The sad thing is that my body is not doing well and if I sit down at all I will fall asleep and there is nothing anyone can do about it. But because I have a 2 month old, my schedule is on his...otherwise I'd more than likely be getting more than what I am now.

I need 7 to 8 hours of sleep to function well. I would just try to compensate anyhow if I don't get sufficient sleep. However, I can go on without food for a long time :-)

People are suppose to get 7 to 9 hours of sleep every night. Its a health fact that a large percentage of Americans don't get enough sleep.

Daily I go to bed at 11 am in the night hours. I get up from the bed in the morning at about 5.30 AM. Hours of sleep you need it depends upon the age factor. Kids need 10 to 12 hrs sleeping , adults need 8-10 hrs sleeping and persons at the age of 60 yrs need 7-8 hrs sleeping in a day to function. For me atleast 8 hrs sound sleep is required to energize and to function whole day,

Hi dear,
I feel you are stressing yourself. We need atleast 7-8 hours of sleep every day. For me, I need at least 8 hours of sleep so that I have enough strength to be active throughout the day. If I do not get enough sleep at night, the next day it shows on my health and also my performance. So, I always try to get enough sleep. Take care and sleep well zzzzzzzzzz....
