Every once in awhile I see a commercial for Cheerleading competitions that are going on and I enjoy watching for awhile but then it gets a bit boring so I have to find something else to watch. I have to give those kids a lot of credit for the talent they have because I know I could never have done a lot of what they do especially those girls who climb to the top of 15 other kids! I think that takes a lot of guts!
Do you watch cheerleading competitions when they come on tv? Do you enjoy them or watch for awhile and then turn the station?

I've been to Cheerleading Competitions. I had a friend who was a cheerleader and the school made it to local championships and stuff so I'd go see it. It's a lot more entertaining in person than it is on TV...unless you're watching the Bring it on movies.

To me anything I can see in person is much better than watching it on tv. I never could get into the Bring It On movies though.

Every once in a while I will watch a cheerleading competition on tv, but I have been to live ones because my granddaughter competes. She does NOT do all the climbing things, but the competitions have those as well and there are various categories within the competitions that she has competed in. She is 12 and has competed within the state and has been doing it for 3 years. I think she has been in 5 or 6 competitions and has taken either a first or second each time AND her squad has competed against girls older than most of them since some of them fall within the older age range. I get tired of watching them even with my granddaughter being a part of it but always enjoy watching her squad perform. The thing about my granddaughter is that she also plays softball and basketball and she is starting volleyball this week. She has also started modelling classes within the last month. Of all of these activities, the cheerleading is MY least favorite to watch!! (I haven't watched her model or play volleyball, but I have 3 daughters who played volleyball and I LOVED watching them.)

Once and a while when I see these competitions on television and I will watch. I really love gymnastics so this is similar but with a lot of yelling. I like to watch the big jumps, flips and such.

I agree...after a couple of stunts watching the competitions does get old. There are very seldom any variations except for the music.

I feel enjoy watch cheerleading, but same to you then i feel bored after a few minute, then i turn it to another channel. I enjoy watch them because of they use a nice techno song for background sound. The beat music make the show happening so much. Then i turn the station when come the group with a low skill.

For me the music is always the best part of the competitions. I looks like the kids are having so much fun when they do it.

Yes I have and it doesn't interest mer at all. I only watch most of what I witnessed called cheerleading because attendace is a must when it comes to that kind of events at school. When seen on tv, I don't take time watching them even a minute hehehe.. I'm not a fun of such activities sorry. :(

I do stop and watch them if I come across a competition while flipping the tv channels. My daughter was a cheerleader in jr. high and high school. She even got a scholarship for her first two years in college by being on the competition team. Then her third year she decided not to because of the time commitment. I have been watching the competitions on tv for quite a while. Nowdays, my hubby will say "haven't you seen enough?" and sigh! That is a cue to change channels.
Yes, they are very skilled! But after watching a while, it is time to continue channel surfing.
It is entertaining and there are moments you gasp, WOW! If you could attend one, like the competition in Florida You should.

I have never watched a cheerleading competition on TV,. I don't watch any other kinds of sports either. My husband and I have no interest in watching sports or competitions of any kinds, on television. We have many other things we'd rather be doing.

Yes, I was on poms (dance) in high school. Cheerleaders who compete are usually very athletic & good in a number of areas ie dance, gymnactics & such. A lot goes into being a cheerleader in general.

I like this original topic! It reminds me of being about ten or eleven, and my sister would be watching the cheerleading competitions on ESPN or whatever channel was hosting them. We went to a school too small for real cheerleaders, so we both enjoyed watching everything they did. She could watch more of it than I could. Eventually I would get bored. But she loved watching them! I think she kept her scoreboard, labeling the teams in order she liked their performances. I think cheerleading like that is a good thing. It keeps young people active, but they also build teamwork and responsibility.

Yes my hubby and I watch them every now and then and are amazed at their gutsy moves. We saw one one time that made those paramid stunts and one girl fell with her elbow sticking out and hit another girl in the mouth and knocked two or three teeth out!! They replayed it in a slow motion and you can see her teeth flying across the room! It was awful and gosh I felt so sorry for her. I warned my neice who was cheerleading too about it and hoped she'd be careful but now she's married and moved to California to be with her Marine hubby.

I enjoy watching the competitions also.I was a cheerleader all through school. The things they do now I could never do!! We just did cheers and a dance segment during pep rallies and half-time. They are athletes for sure.

i love watching cheering competitions especially when it's live telecast. cheerleading commercials appear boring because they have less thrill for having just the same ordinary routines. but here in my country, every september there is a cheering competition among universities and they have to perform 10-minute cheerleading performance with original routines and tosses which made them very stunning and exciting to watch.

I used to be one in high school. But now, "cheerleading" is more gymnastics than cheerleading. They have to work so hard to do all those ornate jumps, flips, throws and everything - stacking on top of each other and just so much gymnastic style moves, they dont' have time to lead the cheers and get the crowd going! Throw in that the crowd is watching them and not the team playing... to me it is just to much overboard of the wrong thing. I am alway hearing on the news and other magazine stories about the high rise of injury to cheerleaders these days - even broken bones. That isn't what cheerleading is all about. The competitions are nice to watch but I sure don't think that is "fair" to legacy of cheerleading.

I enjoy them because I used to cheerlead in highschool. We never got to do those fancy tricks like they do on those competitons. Our main college here won't let the cheerleaders do stunts anymore becasue a girl fell and was paralyzed during on of the stunts.
