What do you do with books that you already have read?

There are some of us who really invest in books while others just borrow from the public library, school library or from friends. For those of you who spend money on books whether you buy from the bookstore or buy second hand books from thrift shops, what do you do with those books after reading them? Do you keep it or do you give it away? If you keep it, are they in a shelf or are they in boxes? For those who give it away, to whom do you give the books? I have shelves for my books. So after reading them, I keep them neatly in my shelf. Those that are really old, I keep them in boxes. I do this to have enough space in my shelves for new books.

They usually go back on my book shelves after I have read them. My neighbor borrows them from time to time and sometimes I offer to send them to friends and family. I don't have a large collection and there are still some on my shelves I have not read yet.

To be honest. That´s no kindness. That should be everyone habit because you´re helping those librarys that can´t build a big collection of books. And also, the poor people can read those expensive books that you already read twice!!!

I put them back on the book shelf. I also loan them out to my sister or mom. I have books I enjoyed as a young adult that are waiting for my girls to read them. I also have children's books that once they are done with them I will save for my grandchildren some day. I love books & could never just get rid of them.

I read them again and again and again. The ones that aren't my favorites wind up on the shelves in my bedroom or stashed away in boxes, but the ones I really enjoy wind up scattered all over my house because I pick them up constantly to either reread the entire book or just favorite parts of it. Right now under my computer desk I can see several books: Of Darkness, Light, and Fire by Tanya Huff, Bleeding Hearts: Love Poems for the Nervous and Highly Strung, a few volumes of Naruto manga, and several roleplaying books. I suppose I should be more careful with my books and keep them all put away neatly all the time, but I just have a habit of carrying them around and picking them up randomly to read. I don't typically buy hardcovers or expensive books for this reason.

Most of the books i've already read are just stored in my bookshelf and if you cant the e-book, they are in my hard drive. But some of them I just re-read them, especially the books bout programming, and novels. I love re-reading most of the books i have coz i sometimes miss out something.

I have a bookshelf as well. And I keep many books on the shelf after reading them. I also have a box in my garage. But my sister in law told me about this wonderful site bookmooch.com where you can put old books you have read on the site and hunt fo others you'd like to read. You don't pay for the books. You trade them. You only pay for the shipping of the books people want that you have. So I am going through my books. And putting them on the site.

I love books and I love to read. I have boxes upon boxes of books in my garage and three shelves full of books. I buy them mostly any more from Half Price Books in Indianapolis, Indiana. But buy elsewhere on occassions also. I homeschool my kids, so not only do I have books for myself, but for any age group. We have family, that has little ones, that I pass them on to when my youngest has read and out grown them, but I have thousands, and my daughter loves to read also, I buy her books and grandma spoils her and buys lots upon lots of books on ebay. I also still have books from when I was a teenager, that I passed on to my daughter. She loves to read, just about everything that I do. I don't limit her on what she can read, and she is even writing her own novel now. She is doing pretty good at it to. Books have been my path to freedom, to explore, learn and imagine. I am so glad to pass that love onto my children. btw I rotate books out of the garage twice a year. Sometimes I even loan out to friends. I normally have what ever they are wanting to read. lol

Right on, shall do. She is getting a kick out of people wanting to read her work. My godmother also wants a signed copy. Books are wonderful, growing up I wanted to work in a library one day. I became a librian's aid in highschool. Got a cool certificate for it too. I love the smell of books.

I completely understand how sentimental you are towards your books. I feel the same way most of the time.

I keep the ones that I know I'm going to read again. I mean, I bought it, I paid for the rights to read it whenever I want, I'm going to keep it. I have shelves for me to keep my books, but that shelf is quickly becoming too small (I think it was too small a few years ago). So I have to figure out another place to put all of my books.

I just love books! I think they are a great legacy you can give to your children and their children after that. If I can afford it I always try to buy hardbound books and display them on shelves. I dream of having a personal library someday even if it's just a section on a wall somewhere in my home cheers!

I always keep the books by my favorite authors or if it's a book I really liked. As for the others, I'll put them aside until I have a pretty good stash to take to a bookstore that buys them. Right now though, they're all going into the garage sale pile. If they don't sell there, then I will take them to the store. I will never let people borrow my books again. I never got the last one back, even though the person promised they would return it. That was nearly three years ago and I had to fight with them to get a new book. When the book came, it wasn't even the original that I had.

There really are disadvantages of lending our books to other people.. That's why, I only lend books to people whom I trust...

I have a small library in my house and a small bookshelf in there. I keep all of my books on my bookshelf. I will lend them but, whomever I lend them too knows that I want it back when they are done. I love books to much to just give them away, sell them or toss them. I rarely borrow from the library and never borrow from a friend. There is something so exciting about a brand new, unread book to me.

i seldom buy books. i buy books that i really love and usually, i keep it. i store them somewhere safe. ^__^ sometimes i lend them to friends but only to those who know how to return what they've borrowed. i haven't given any books yet but i have this one book (which i bought another copy accidentally) which i am thinking of giving away but i just don't know yet to whom i will give it to. ^__^

It depends on the book. If it's something that I plan to read again in the future, I keep it, and put it on one of the floor to ceiling bookshelves that I have. Others that are in good condition, but don't plan to read I either resell on ebay, or give away via bookcrossing.

I like reading books. I usually keep on-shelf the books that I are used more often. I still keep on the shelf those books that I have read already. I lend a few of the books I have read to my friends. I still keep those which I have read already for future reference. I really like sharing the things I read on books so I keep them. Also, many of my books are of reference type books so I really have to keep them. Another reason I keep the books I have read already is because I want to read them again. Having read a book doesn't mean that you remember all of the things written on it.

That's a good question. I can't bear to part with them. You never know when you need to refer to them again...and i gave myself many reasons why i should keep them, ending up with a room full of books and super narrow walking spaces.

I lend out a lot of my books to my friends. The others I show off as trophies; what better way to let everyone know you're smarter than them than by showing off yer books.
