Bathing your dog...How often do you do it?

We have 3 dogs, well I guess we have 4 right now. My dad left his dog here because my brothers female dog that lives with him is in heat. They do not get baths very often. The only one that really stinks is the big dog that you could not wash in the tub. She is too heavy. Washing her outside would not really work because the water from the hose is like ice water. That would just be mean. Do you wash your dogs? How often? Or do you take them to be groomed? If you wash your own dog where do you wash them?

I have allergies and I have a dog. I won't give up my dog, so he needs to be as allergen free as I can get him reasonably. I at least rinse him off once a week and wash him every couple weeks with a mild shampoo. I wash him in the tub. If I had a big dog I couldn't fit in the tub, I would take the dog to a dog wash. We have dog washes here and also had them back east. I don't know if the dog washes are cheaper than the groomer. whit

We usually give our dogs a bath once a month, but sometimes its more often if we take them to the river and one of them rolls in something gross(which they usually do LOL).
We have three that are all too big for the sink and none of them like their bath so it takes both my hubby and me to bathe them and usually about an hour of our time.

I bath my dog usually every week to week and a half. I wash her in the kitchen sink with an attachment that I hook to the faucet so she is showered, rather than standing in a tub of water. My dog will go to my sister the groomer if I am too lazy to do it myself but for the most part, I bath my own dog.

Petsmart has a doggy grooming service. We don't bathtub wash the dog in my house, so I buy what amounts to doggy wet-wipes. They call themselves doggy dry bath cloths or something. They work, kinda.

Yes I've used those wipes too - much to the chagrin of my husband. He says spending money on those is a waste. But Rose seems to not mind them especially when I warm them slightly in the micro. I think they at least help with the smell. He doesn't. But then again he's ultra sensitive to smells he doesn't like - stinky dog included. -Tink

I usually only wash my dogs in the summer time. Its to cold to wash them in the winter as they are usually outside anyways. However they do come in now and then, Esp when its really really cold. They are winter dogs tho. Anyhow bathing them in the winter is hard they are so big for the tub. But sometimes we try cause they do stink.

I have one dog, and he is an indoor dog. I take him on frequent walks, but he is indoor otherwise. I live in an apartment, so I can't just let him out to play like I would if I had a yard. Sherlock is eight pounds, and unlike some of my former dogs, he is quite cooperative when I bathe him. He sometimes tries to jump into the tub when I'm taking a shower! Anyway, per the vet's instructions, I bathe him once a month, then I put on his flea/tick protection. It works really well. I don't have need to get him groomed because his hair never grows too long. I do have his nails clipped though.

We groom our dogs because they are to big and they shed way to much. She told us they only needed to be bathed twice a year! Same with the Vet! They both said that more then that would dry there skin out. Of course if one of them gets stinky or very dirty we do the best we can. I actually stick mine in the stand up shower and shut the door for a while lol. That way they get washed with just water and it doesn't dry there skin out to much. I honestly don't think that using a hose is cruel or anything as long as it isn't freezing outside and you dry them off right away. My dogs love playing in the water I spray from the hose.

I do wash my dog. I wash him at least every 7-10 DAYS. He is a pomeranian and they are very hairy. I like him to be nice and shiny. My boy also gets flakes. When I noticed the skin becoming dry and flaky I usually do it then its usually about every week or so. I also use a little bit of conditioner and when I blow dry I use a coconut oil to help maintain his dry skin. I think my dog has become very high maintenance.lol

i used to be a dog groomer... Everyone has thee own idea of how often a dog should be bathed or groomed. i myself have a lhasa apso whom i bathe once every two weeks... i groom her about once a month. I am trying to keep her longer so have to do a little more to keep up with her. I give her baths in my kitchen sink and she just sits there and is very good about it.

We don't spend money on groomers or doggy washes. So Rose hasn't had a bath all winter. She actually doesn't smell too bad. And I was advised by a friend to use Bounce (or other fragrant dryer sheet) to rub the dog down and get rid of their smell. I've tried it and it seems to work, but word of caution, don't rub it in too deep, just on the surface of the fur. Because I think their skin can be irritated by the stuff. -Tink
