When I was small I didn't like them but love them now. A couple years ago I planted the seed from an avocado I ate. It started growing but then when the freeze came it died. When the weather got nice it started growing again from two new shoots. It hasn't gotten any taller in over a year now but it's still green. I'm at it again this time I put 3 seeds on the windowsill. My first one I planted directly into the ground. I think it will be funner to watch the roots grow too before planting it into the ground. So what's your experience with avocados?

hi snowmouse!
isn't avocado for tropical weather only? and oh, they grow as big trees. i like avocado, too. but we just buy they, we didn;t grow them because they grow so big and take up space in the yard. :) but it is fattening, too. lol
God bless you and take care! :)

I don't know about tropical avocados. When I was little there was a fully mature tree in our back yard in Southern Calif. it was pretty big but fit nicely behind the garage and to the side of our clothes line. The haas avacados come from mexico.

That is great, the way the two new shoots started to grow, after the plant had frozen. I love gardening, and watching things grow, is absolutely amazing. That is also cool watching things grow and get a good start indoors first, before you put them in the ground. Which reminds me, thank-you, to get some seeds and start a few things growing before it is time to plant outside. I have no experience yet with growing avacodos, but I do love to eat them. I am like you and didn't care much for them when I was younger. Kind of a taste to 'grow into', maybe.

I know what you mean about amazing. I also planted a seed from out of an apple my son had ate. To my amazement it started growing. I told my sister I was growing a apple tree from a seed she laughed and said all trees grow from seeds. Well, the amazing thing for me was I planted it and it was growing. I don't have a green thumb at all. To me it's a miracle.
