Its time to get started on Fair "theme" ideas

The Bear Necessities / Accessories Tissue Box Cove - This is one of my theme enteries of two years ago. It won fair theme, first place, and best of class.

This is an original pattern and is one of over 50 that is in my new book Plastic Canvas Crafts Secrets, due to come out this spring.

I just received my County Fair Handbook. The Theme is HOMETOWN PRIDE SHARED COUNTYWIDE. The division I enter into each year is plastic canvas and within the division there are 9 seperate classes. I have won the fair theme theme 10 years in a row. I enter at lest one item in every class and that way I bring home 3-5 blue ribbons. Anyone else going to enter any projects into a fair?

I love fairs! And I love to see all the beautiful, creative things people enter. I'm not talented enough to enter anything myself, though. I do crochet afghans and baby blankets, but simple patterns only. That teddy bear tissue holder photo you posted is absolutely darling!

Ldyjarhaed Don't put yourself into the non talented category. I for one think you must have talent. I have tried to crochet and it's not easy. I thought my projects were not that great when I first started over 10 years ago. Each year I enter and get to see the competition, in which I take photo's of and I get to read the judges score cards. This is valuable information. I have improved my quality of workmanship every year thanks to the score cards. You really should give it a try. Have you ever done any plastic canvas?

I'm not saying I've NO talent, but what I do is pretty run-of-the-mill, nothing intricate. I like the simple patterns because it's a relaxing hobby for me. I don't have to count and write down rows and stitches on a pad of paper. I can crochet while watching TV, holding a conversation, riding in a car, whatever. If I tried hard enough, I could probably master something a little more difficult, but I don't think I'd enjoy it.

Oops, forgot to answer your question. No, I've never done any plastic canvas. I never really thought there was much you could do with it. After seeing your picture here, maybe I should think again. Do you have more pictures of items you've made?

I love fairs and I love to enter items in the fair. Since I do all kinds of crafts, I usually end up entering a whole lot of items LOL I have come home with many blue ribbons for my efforts. I have to say though, with the fairs near me and the ones I have entered over the years that there isn't a theme to base your projects on. I think its a neat idea though :-D I would like to enter into this years fair but not sure if I will or not.
