You must take your pup out as soon as it gets up and as soon as it eats or drinks. Praise it beyond belief when it pees/poops outside.
Make sure you have words for it...Our dogs are trained to 'get busy'. So as soon as your dog pees, say 'good get busy' in a real excited voice.
It will take a while, but dogs are smart and catch on fast.

Hi Debs_place, it is rather weird at first to "talk" to the dog however over a period of time, I'm used to it and I do see the respond from my Shih Tzu now especially when I praise him followed by his biscuit to motivate him. Anyway, thank you for your valuable advice.

To do it in the toilet is a bit too much to ask.
What you need is to train him to do it in the garden .
This requires a bit of patience.
You must give your dog free access to the back.
If it is not an automatic exit and entrance, you need to try and expect him to preferably do it
next to a tree.
Put him on a leash and take him out and get
him to walk around the tree until he actually
does it.
Get his nose to sniff it a few times.
Do this at least half a dozen times.
You will see the improvement as you go along.
He does it quicker and quicker.
Try and reward the cleverness.
When the habit takes hold, let him out in the garden
at least every two hours.
The difficulty is the night time.
Try to cut out the drinks before bed time.
Make sure you let him out first thing in the
morning and the last thing thing at night.
Good luck.
Patience is a virtue.

Hi Roland. The reason why I prefer my dog to do it in the toilet is because it is easier for him to do his busy there rather then at the garden. The dog needs to close a drain to access to the garden and I'm scare he may fall into the drain (small drain anyway). I will try to train my dog the way you advised me. However I need to be persistent and patience. Thanks for the comment.

The best thing to do is to take them out often and reward them with a treat. Take them out as soon as they wake up, after they eat or drink, after they play, before bed. Puppies bladders are not very big and they have to go often. Take them to the door and say outside. Then take them out and tell them to go potty. While there doing it praise them with a good boy. Then take him in the house and make him sit for a treat. Continue this everyday all the time and he will eventually get it. He should also get to where he will tell you when he has to go. Make sure he goes both 1 and 2 while your out. If not he might come back in and poo on the floor. If he does happen to do it on the floor take him right outside and tell him go potty outside. It takes time and patience and puppys will have accidents. Be patient and understanding and you will have a house trained pup in no time.

Hello Copperkitten. Yes, that's what I'm trying to do now, to reward my Shih Tzu with a treat. Usually I asked him to do his business in the toilet for it is easy for him to access to it. However, as you said, sometime accident do happened from time to time. It really test our patience at time. Thanks for valuable comment and hopefully in no time I'm a good dog trainer. Hehehe....

We need patience. Now is still small and understands a little, you can try to carry it in the garden several times a day and do it stroll up to when there is the burning, if it dirty in the house you must reprove it

Hi Preve1984, yes patience is my greatest challenge now with my Shih Tzu. That doen't mean I don't love him. He's so cute and adorable however when he boops in the house I tend to be angry at him and he will show a pity face. Thanks for your comment.

The way i trained my dog when it was a pup was rewarding it whenever it does a thing i want it to . First and formost you have choosen the right time to do so .Coz dogs start learning at 6 weeks old. now about training your pup. Be persistant and dont loose your heart. start off by rushing the pup to the garden or the toilet when you see it peeing . and slowly it would learn it. i trained my dog that way. good luck.

My Shih Tzu now is about 8 weeks and I started rushing him to the toilet whenever I see him peeing or doing the booing however he still pee anywhere he likes. Perhaps not the time yet. I will try to be persistent, as you said. Anyway, thanks for your advice.
