I had dogs, cats, rabbits, piggions, hens, & sheeps, when i was a kid,
but i haddogs as my pet for long long time, but when my beautiful friend ( puppy ) dog, died, i broke down compleatly, & stopped having any kind of pets,
my hubby had fishes, dogs as his favourits,
now since i dont have any kind of pet, i was longing to have one little doggy, but my hubby refused, coz even he has a loss & did not want me to become emotional again,
but in my appartment the person who is residing in the first floor ( we are in the ground floor) have a parrot, so beautiful & sweet, when one day i accedently met with it, & just called the parrot, it immediately came & sat on my fingers, i was surprised, & loved the parrot so much,
it seems the parrot does not go to any one but now i am the first person it has liked,i live it on the branches, make it swing, & play among the plants, i take it high on the 9th plore to show the skies , & since its wings are cut short it could not fly,
since then, when ever the maid brings the parrot outside, when she crosses our house it shouts & gives a alarm to me so that i might know that the parrot is out & it loves to play with me,
it sits on my shoulder, & eats if i feed her, & in half an hour break time it has ,it enjoys with me & goes back
now a days i got so attached to the beautiful parrot, i feel caging it is a crime, coz it does not enjoy the real life which god has given it to enjoy,
we as human being cage the birds & enjoy but who knows how much it is desperate to fly on high, in the sky & explore the world with its wings,
when the wings are cut short, & those little creatures are being caged, i fel sorry for them , if i had one, i would have left it free in the air, & live somewhere in the skies very happily with its family
do you have any experience which has hurted you ?

Hi cindrel_27,
What a lovely story!
It started out sounding a bit like the Tasmanian Devil's lunch menu - that's quite a variety of pets you've had.
It sounds like the parrot has bonded with you, so you better get used to it - you're now married. And parrots can live quite a long time, so I hope you remain faithful.
Parrots are actually very intelligent little creatures - they are smarter than a chimpanzee, and about equal to a four or five year old human child. If you take the time to talk with the parrot, it should learn to have meaningful conversations with you after a while. They can assimilate quite a vocabulary if you take the trouble to engage them in spoken language.
As far as being free to fly is concerned, I think it would be best for your little parrot friend to stay with what it already knows. If it did grow back its feathers and learned to fly properly, once it flew to some height it may not be able to find its way back to you - even if it wanted to. And there's also the threat of predators like a hawk or a cat hunting your little friend - it would have no experience of these things and would be easy prey.
My father had the unusual experience of being adopted by a wild galah a few years back. He called it "George", and George would come visit my father every couple of days, just flying down out of the blue. But George was well-schooled in how to survive, and always kept one eye looking up into the sky in case a hawk or eagle was prowling around. George eventually stopped visiting - he might have found a mate and gone elsewhere, or he might have met with an accident somewhere. Or some well-meaning person might have thought George was an escaped cage bird and put him in a cage.
Wild birds like George shouldn't be locked up, but birds like your little friend would probably be put more at risk if they were released into the wild without being trained in how to survive. It looks like a nice blue sky, but it's a dangerous place out there for any bird, and more so for one who has been raised as a pet.
If your friend is going to be taught how to fly, it might be best to release him into a large aviary, at least at first. It's actually quite difficult for a bird to figure out where he is if he has never been flying high above the trees and buildings before.
