Have you heard about the product Magic Jack, which can save you money on monthly phone bills? By using this device, you only pay $20 a year and that is it. No monthly phone bills. You can call locally and long distance for free within the US, Canada and I believe Puerto Rico as well. You pay $40 to get the product and nothing else for a whole year. It plugs into your USB on your computer and then you attach your phone into the Magic Jack and you are ready to go. You make up your own phone number. I am waiting for mine to arrive in the mail. I have a friend who says it works really well. They have a website if you want to know more about it - magicjack.com

Hi kgwat, I saw a commercial about it on tv and was surprised. I will look at the website to get more information about it. Please keep me informed about it, I want to know if you like it when you get it. $20.00 a year - WOW!

Hi! I just received the Magic Jack in the mail today and plugged it into my computer and really love it. I called my parents and a long distance friend and the reception was great and better than a regular landline phone. My parents were amazed how clear the reception was when we chatted. You get free call waiting, call forwarding, caller id and free directory assistance.

It has been working very well for me so far and love the clear reception of the Magic Jack. It will save people a lot of money and reduce monthly bills. You can try it free for 30 days to see if you like it. It is easy to install and register.

We got one, it works awesome, but we've decided to return it seeing as how we don't use our home phone that much and the did not have any area codes for our state! Now we are going to return it only to discover in order to return it MUST have the original packaging. UGH!! Maybe we'll get it again at a later date but right now we just have no use for a land line.

Hello Ken! This seems too good to be true! With the price of everything going up and up it is great to see a service that is a good value. We have been trying to figure out ways to save money and this would be perfect. You can even make international calls by purchasing minutes. We don't make international calls often, but would be nice to have the service available. I wish I had seen this post earlier!
Hope you are doing well. Big huggers to you.

I am still using this service and it is still working well for me. It is nice not having monthly bills to pay and the reception is very nice. Definitely a good way to save money. Big hugs to you as well. I have decided to come back to myLot though not sure how often I will be on.

I have never tried it but I am interested in it. My regular phone bill is 60 dollar per a month, compared to 20 dollars a year that's a lot. But I'm not sure how reliable it would be and I really need my phone as I use it to call my assistants.

I do have some questions for you though. I have seen the "infomercial" so long. So it seems like you have used this service for a long time. Do you get to keep the same phone number? Do you get to keep it in the same area code? Can you hook up two or three to the same line? That sounds so cool! Have a wonderful day.

I have been able to keep the same phone number after renewing after the year is over and same area code. I have not moved out of state so I am not sure if you have to change the area code. My renter moved to another state and is still using the same area code. I have only one line so that is something you would need to ask MagicJack. Great service and great quality reception.

Thanks for starting this conversation. I just heard about it this morning.
I really would like to get one but we get a really good rate with the cable company, since DH works for them. If he ever leaves, I might have to go this route.
Do you need to keep your computer turned on to get this to work?
Thanks,

Well since this topic was started 2 years ago then you probably have your magicjack. I have had it for 3 months and I will tell you, you get what you pay for. The sound quality is crap, it goes in and out, drops calls, and when I talk for over 120 mins it automatically cuts the call off. They tell you it has caller ID but it doesn't show up on the phone but on the computer monitor, so it you're not sitting in front of the computer when a call comes in then you are in the dark as to who is on the other end of the phone. They tell you that it includes 3-way calling and but what they don't tell YOU is you can't make the calls, the calls have to come in to you ex.: I am on the phone with my sister A and we want to talk to our other sister B, well I have to hang up and call sister B and tell her to call me in 5 minutes and then I call sister A back then we have to wait for sister B to call me and then I have to press ## then we can be connected on a 3-way call. And also if I am talking to sister A and that pesky ex-boyfriend calls, sometimes without me doing a thing the call flips over to the line he is on and I all of sudden hear his voice instead of my sister. Yes this has happened to me several times. I can't dodge his calls anymore. The magicjack costs $20 a year that's because that's ALL IT IS WORTH!

I have not been using mine as much lately but still find it useful and better than getting monthly bills and having to pay taxes on local and long distance service, when I do not use the phone frequently. I have not had any quality issues with my phone. It is true in many cases that we get what we pay for. Hopefully they will improve their existing product or come out with something better that we will all like and be able to save money.
