How important is health education? Even the educated seem to know so little about basics of good health. Good,in one sense that people are starting to be aware of it,of late.Should it be taught more in school?or can it be done through public lectures or any other way?give suggestions too.thx

Very important. I think it can be taught in schools in a much more effective manner. We can have public lectures too. I think considering its importance we need to go all out to spread its awareness.

Thanks guys for responding.we become aware of the importance of health only when we lose it.Many times,we neglect and don't take care of it even if we know.A smoker knows that he can develop lung cancer in the long run,but he still does, thousands of doctors smoke!!So,health education should go beyond the plain knowledge of it.No doubt,we have to teach the facts, but we also should strive to motivate people to want to stay healthy, tell of the importance of health in terms of economic, social, political, psychological, mental, spiritual benefits...

Hi there! I think that it is really important to have health education and I think it should be taught in children's early schoolyears. I think that it is really important and everyone will benefit from it. Sometimes, the lack of awareness kills people and it would be really great if we can make the children aware so they can start early in taking care of their health.

I think health education is extremely important. Statistics are showing increased amounts of obesity...Especially in Americans it seems. I have to admit that I do at times wonder, if we were more aware of such facts, how to prevent them, and good ways of eating if we might be able to bring those numbers down again? Good tips to remember is not to eat before you go to bed. Try and keep the time between when you eat and when you go to bed at no less than 2 hours. Just cutting out the amount of soda you drink can drastically reduce your weight. Two simple tips such as these can help you lose some weight. Other tips to remember as far as health goes, always wash your hands in very warm water although you don't want to scald yourself. Scrub with soap for at least two minutes before rinsing. Make sure you get between your fingers and everything. Our hands carry plenty of germs and so anything that we pick up and put in our mouths then carries these germs. If you are sick get plenty of rest and drink plenty of fluids. Simple and basic health tips such as these should help a person out a lot. I think health lectures in public schools would be a great idea. Incorporating more fun into teaching health might make kids pay attention more. I think that this was a wonderful discussion. Health is a very important thing in all of our lives.

People should have always been aware. When we were in school P.E. was mandatory. Now from what I read, Physical Education is only mandatory in 1 US state. And we are raising a nation of obese kids.Everyone get up and MOVE. It needs to be shouted from rooftops. I don't have a fix all. But I will be checking back to see if others have good suggestions, thanks.
