When is the last time you changed your hairstyle?

Growing up my mom always made me get a short shag cut. I hated it. When I was old enough to decide for myself I let it grow long. I have out of control wavy hair and people usually see my hair before they see me! I have decided now that being in my 40's it is time for a change. I haven't had bangs in 20 years and I think maybe it is time to welcome them back! When is the last time you changed your hairstyle? Is it time for a new one?

Wow! One of my favorite topics! In my teens I always kept my hair shagged, which I would tease sky high to go with my black eyeliner and 'bad girl' image. My bangs were always down in my eyes and my skirts were always up to my a$$. This (the bangs, not the skirts) caused many battles between my mother and I, some very violent battles. I remember once when I was 13 or 14, she told me to cut my bangs. I refused. The next thing I know I'm locked in the bathroom with my mother trying to beat the door down with a vacuum cleaner so that she could cut my bangs herself.
I'm past 50 years old now, and my mother still tries to tell me what to do with my hair, she's just more covert about it these days. My hair is past my a$$ and I had a few bangs that I had decided I was going to let grow out... for a new hairstyle. Later that day I was over at my mothers house and she made a snide remark trying to pretend it wasn't a snide remark and that it was just an innocent observation of certain behavior she had noticed in people that had nothing to do with me at all. Yeah, I fell for that. The comment was "Women just wear bangs so it can make them look younger". She was thinking that she could strike at my vanity to manipulate me into wearing my hair in a fashion that she could agree with. But being the rebel that I am so inclined to be, I decided that a new hairstyle wasn't all that important. I take every opportunity to flaunt these bangs in her face. I can't believe that this petty, unimportant issue is still a raging battle after 40 phucking years!!!
Another time I had broken up with my boyfriend for like the 12th or the 16th time, and to remind myself that this time it was the final time, and the beginning of a new life, I decided to give myself a new hairstyle, that way every time I looked in the mirror I would think 'new me, new life'.
Well, my hair was about waist length at that time, and I took the scissors and started snipping. I had shaved my head before, and I don't look as beautiful as Sinead O'Conner with no hair, so I didn't want to go that route, and instead just snipped the hair almost all the way to the scalp but I left about an inch... hoping for a little lost waif look. The thing is there was one incredibly long swatch of hair growing from of the crown of my head that I could not bring myself to cut off, it was just too beautiful.
So I ended up looking like an absolute freak with a mohawk, an oriental warrior, and everytime I looked at my long beautiful locks in the garbage can I burst out crying. And here's the kind of person I was back then... instead of emptying the trash can so I didn't have to cry every time I saw it, I left it there for a week.
So I no longer mess around with 'new hairstyles' much, especially those that involve scissors. I have learned some new braiding techniques though.

I had some battle royales with my mom too. I think that is why I have kept my hair long for so long. Out of spite! I went to England in the late 70's and came back with a new punk do. I thought that was going to be the end of old mom! I've never gone as far as Sinead O'conner's look though. And Britney thought she was so original!

I had this short hair (up to my nape) for several years now. When I was little my mom used to cut my hair so short. When I was in high school i decided to have my hair grow longer and had it long up to the waistline. But its hard managing long hair, so after a year, I decided to have it cut up to my shoulder, then becomes shorter up to my nape. This is my hairstyle for several years now. I think I am ok with this style and do not think of changing it.

It has been a long time since I have changed my hairstyle - I think at least five to seven years. I have a hard time liking the way my hair looks - I love getting it straightened at the salon, but I am never able to recreate that look at home!

I pretty much keep the same style. Right now I don't have a fro(just havent updated my pic.) I have however dyed my hair blue before. I also remember a time when I permed my hair so it would be straight.

I'm in a family with 2 cosmetologist so for that I'm blessed. I've had shorter hair for almost 5 years, but I will do the longer short sometimes and the shorter short. Right now its a bob in the front and stacked in the back. I keep my color updated , along with my eyebrows. I can't stand for my eyebrows not to be done! Only problem is they grow so fast.

Hehehehe! I thought you were saying that she was lucky to have two eyebrows! I was wondering what happened to yours when I realized it was cosmetologists you were talking about. We have 1 cosmologist in the family... it is my mother, and there is not one of us who would trust her with a pair of scissors at our heads!! When she had her own shop she sent a girl into the street crying. The girl had come into the shop with waist length hair wanting a trim, and like I said, she went sobbing and crying out of the shop - with shoulder length hair.
I started going to 'beauty school' once. My mother paid a small fortune for it because I was so good with hair. But I met this guy there and we had a lot in common... mainly our love of pot. We started out just getting high at lunch break, but we eventually stopped going back after lunch, and ultimately we started meeting in the morning to get high, and that didn't work out to well as far as school went and we both ended up being 'beauty school dropouts'. Hehehe.... at one time I could have said that was the story of my life!

It seems like everytime I go to get a haircut, I am determined to change my hairstyle, but I always walk out looking the same. I don't know why it is so hard to change. I have probably had the same sort of hairstyle for at least 10 years now....I think it's time for a change.

I have forgotten really. When I was a kid, mom used to cut it really short and with a fringe in front. Then in my early youth I started growing it long and straight and then someday (I don’t remember exactly) I cut it short again in layers. I think it was after the birth of my child and I wanted to get out of my baby-blues, I wanted to give myself a new look. I still have that short and wavy style for 8yrs now but its not a big deal really coz most of the time I cant keep my hair open. I have to keep it tied up, otherwise I feel very suffocated with the hair falling all over my face.

style? what is that?
It has been a good dozen years since I had a hair style - since then it is just long evenly all around. I was thinking about getting bangs again as my hair is receding a little at the temples, but they can be such a hassle, and I am a rather minimalist when it comes to hassle, lol.

I would like to give you my update hairstyle information:) I had a nice haircut yesterday. My hair isn't long now. But people said it looked better. Yesterday when my husband saw me, he stared at me carefully and seemed I was another one:) I asked whether this hairstyle looks better or not, he said yes. But I always doubt his words:)

i always love to change my hairstyle every now and then. can't stand having the same hairstyle all the time coz i'll get bored of it. i've always have straight and long hair for quite sometime already, until one a half years ago i decided to get it permed! loved it although it took me a while to get used to it. very high maintenance though. after one year plus of having curly hair, i decided to cut it off. now i'm back with my straight long hair. towards the end of the year i'm planning to cut it short, probably get a bob or something hehe ;)

well my hair really plain and boring lol i have had it this style since i can really remember, i just put it in a piggy tale (i work with kids) so its easier to that than have it fancy etc, but i like putting streaks through it every now and then.

When I was a kid I went from long to short back to long. Then I had my daughter. And the daily dealing with an infant and a pony got to be a hassle. So short in went. But everyone my hubby and mother in law to my mom all commented they liked me better with the longer hair. So I have been growing it out since then.

I've looked pretty much the same since I was 17. The only way I change it is cutting my bangs and maybe trimming the splits ends off.
