romancing the... coins

We have some bills due this week and savings is short. We needed money to fund the bank so that we will be able to pay bills.
My husband doesn't keep coins in his pocket or wallet. He hates it because it's heavy and noisy. He keeps a pouch, cans, containers, boxes and whatnot to put all his change.
When I am bored and not doing anything I would sort the coins and roll them on papers. The first time I did it... I came up with $845 worth of quarter, nickels and dimes (the pennies are still in a big box and I don't have any intention of rolling them).
So each time we will be short of cash... I start romancing the coins.

It's not too late to start. Just drop the coins and forget about it. That is one of the trick. When you forget about it you dont look for it and spend it when you see that it is already half full.

Wow - I wish I could find that much coin in my house. My daughter is an expert in finding it and taking it. Also, when we have had too much to roll (usually after a yard sale), we just take it to our bank. They put it in their counting machine and we don't have to do a thing and it saves a lot of time.

That coins took my husband 3 years to collect. And when we got married last year and since I am not working, that kept my sanity intact. I had something to do and wow, i was so excited when after rolling them on paper and started counting them, it amounted to almost a thousand dollars, it was really something.

Wow! That is a huge chunk of change!! Great name for that too :-D Romancing the coins :)
I have a coke bottle about 1/7th full of change and I try to add to it whenever I can. At one point I added up the change and it was over 200. The problem is I don't put change in there very often anymore so it isn't getting much larger. I don't plan to cash it in until it is full... which seems like it's gonna take forever!

Take your time. And try to forget all about it. Just drop all the noisy coins in your pocket there and try to forget about it after dropping them.

That is a nice way of solving your financial problem... at least the money is already there... i started thinking about counting all my coins and finally use them to pay for credit card bills... but i still can't find the time to do it... maybe i just don't want to part with my coins... but then... maybe one of these days... when i really feel that i need to use the money...

You really need to have a special time to do it because it is a hard work so to speak and boring too. LOL

I never seem to have enough coins laying around the house to make rolls. A lot of times I throw my change in the denoation bins at the register, or I use it when bying something.

Donating it is now just good as getting rid of it but helping people in need as well. That is good too.

Yes, my hubby just put the coins on top of the table, drawer, the bed... anywhere he can put it and I usually grab it and drop it on canisters and before I knew it, the canisters are full again just in time when we are short of cash for bills payment.
