I need a new car, and I have always wanted a sports car. Unfotunetly I am on a limited budget, I'm thinking $12,000 to $14,000 max, for a used car.
I want something that is quick and nimble and looks nice. I like a lot of the Japanese tuner type cars, but I'm not a mechanic. My only other requirements are that it be a stick shift, and NOT a convertable (which rulez out the mazda miata.)
Any suggestions for a reliable and affordable used sports car are much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

12-14k?? Get a Ford Mustang GT. 1999-2004 are the best models. It's got a near 4.5 0-60, sounds like TRUE American muscle, and are sexy. Save about 1k to uniquely style your car on the outside, like paint job (Stripes, two-tone, etc..), maybe a body-kit?, mach 1 grill delete, 17 or 18 inch Cobra rims, tail light blackout, etc. etc..
I'd go with an 03-04 Cobra if you can find one for the right price. Maybe even a Mach I same thing if you find it for the right price. Those are even faster and look a lot better stock.
A stick shift on a Mustang GT/Cobra/Mach I is easy to find and a lot are coupes. These are defenitely the most bang for you buck. I own a 99 V6 and it's still pretty nice. I've got a good system with a sub, my own unique style exterior mods, and it's not too shabby in the speed department, it's faster than most of my friends cars and for 4,500 and my first car I defenitely enjoy it.

Yeah I've been looking at the mustangs, but not sure that I want to buy a ford. lol
The car I'm leaning towards at the moment is an Acura RSX type S. 201 hp stock, (but it's tuned) and there are tons of things that can be done to it.
The other upside is that they are fairly rare, and hold their value pretty good. What do you think?

If you want a riceburner then go for that. But honestly, Fords hold up well I would know my car has 116k on it and still runs strong. I gurantee you I could get 7.5k for it and that's really high considering it's age/mileage.
Btw, my car has nearly 200 HP stock so if you're looking for something that fast you can get a REAL nice V6 99-04 for about 8k and spend the rest building a better engine or you can just buy a GT that comes stock with about 275 HP.
