An earthquake hit Britain last night. The British Geological Survey (BGS) said that the magnitude of the earthquake was of 5.3. I think that's a sever one. No causalities have been reported yet. Have any of you experienced it??? Do you know more about this earthquake???

I live about 50 miles south of Market Rasen and many people here felt it but it did no damage here. There have been reports of chimney stacks falling and some structural damage but nothing severe. There was one injury that we have heard of.
First they said that it was 4.7, then 5.3 but now they have decided that it was 5.2. 5 is regarded as 'significant' in the UK and people are saying that it was the strongest they have known since 1985.
I am not sure how it works but I feel that, if the soil your hose is on is already something like a jelly (such as saturated clay or peat) then one is likely to feel it less than if one's house is attached to something more solid.

i was in it :) woo hoo for me haha!
it wasn't that bad, the epicentre was at market rasen (in lincolnshire, i live not far from there and we (my son and I) were woken by a rumbling noise and the bedrooms shaking.
I had no idea what it was til I was able to read some online news reports, this is the one that has the best information about it: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/lincolnshire/7266229.stm
so far there have been no deaths recorded as a result of the quake :)
