That's an interesting question, considering American Football just might owe the existence of "the huddle" to a Deaf player. Life most institutions of the kind, the exact birth of the huddle is hard to pin down. One of the many explanations was the football team of Gallaudet University in Washington, DC. Paul Hubbard was a Deaf quarterback. His teammates would "huddled" around him to keep the other team from watching Paul Hubbard sign the plays.

There have been a few Deaf football players in the NFL in the past. There is a guy in the Draft this weekend that is Deaf. I believe his name is Martin VanZant out of Oklahoma State. He is a deaf cornerback that is expected to go later in the draft or sign with a team after the draft. I think it is hard to make it to the NFL for anyone and if there are any deaf players that are good enough to play the NFL they will be given a shot.

Maybe not nfl, but in British soccer I've seen one deaf player. I think he plays for Harrogate Railway or Mansfield town. He played well and rarely seemed disadvantaged by his inability to hear team mates or the ref. He certainly wouldn't be put off by the crowd.

I dont think there is any deaf players currently in the league. Im not too sure how a deaf player would fare either, the coaches would have to learn sign language as well or have everything typed up, and hearing is a big part of the game..
