Reasons on why Liverpool haven't won the title for 17 years?

It's a shame that club with a rich history like Liverpool haven't won a league title for so long. There are many reasons for this, but in my opinion there are: too many low grade creative players bought on the cheap (Smicer, Zenden), unwillingness to invest in proven creative talent, preference for young, unproven creative talent, most of whom inevitably fail (Danny Murphy), preference for tireless workhorses who run all day but are short on craft and guile (like Dirk Kuyt) and misuse of genuinely creative players who could have made a difference (Litmanen and Anelka). How about you guys?

There are a number of reasons why we have failed to win the Premier League -
we have not had two great strikers playing for us in tandem when they are both at their peak - Rush - Fowler -Owen - Torres. All great goalscorers but for the first three one was on their way down as the other was coming to their best.
We have sold all of our good local players - and most often never give them a chance aside from Gerrard and Carragher. I think local players would give more than the cheap imports.
Houllier and Benitez have had success in Europe but don't seem to realise that the English champions normally come from the team who play the same team week in week out

I think part of the problem is that Liverpool is now too dependant on foreigners. TWhen Liverpool were winning championships back in the 80s, the bulk of the players, or more importantly the backbone of the team were locals, players who grew up in Liverpool, either supporting the club or Evertone (but still local none the less). In fact, even the managers back then were former players. Over the last few years, this has been lacking. The only local born players left in the first team are Gerard and Carragher.
