I'm sure there are alternative ways of teaching, like, if your children like computer games, then consider their education when buying them one. Buy one that involves history, mathematics, geography or spelling. Then buy books to correspond with the games, and make sure they read the game instructions and the books alongside. I'm sure they'd be willing to learn then. My granddaughters do some of their homework on the computer, particularly the older one, when it comes to writing a lot. Thus, she enjoys doing her homework more. The only downside there is, that they don't practice their handwriting enough, but that can be easily remedied with the writing of notes and personal letters to friends. If a bit of fun an imagination is incorporated into the learning system, then I'm sure the lessons will be much more easily stored in their heads. :) Brightest Blessings.

Most educational establishments have a Parent/Teacher Association, so perhaps it would be an idea for them to all get their heads together and approach the education department with their ideas. You find it works well, as do I, and the schools have to spend their budgets on something, so a little suggestion here and there as to how they use it, might just be listened to and actioned?

i see that too. not just sa but everywhere. i hope you make enough money to put your daughter in private school. my daughter's school costs R1020 per month. the others are even more expensive. i fear that sa has fallen behind a lot on most levels. especially education and medical facilities. the public schools are dangerous and the teachers dont give a damn. they dont want to fix things. they want to control them. it will become even more difficult for the kids as they change the sylabus constantly.

my daughter is in a Afrikaans school but there are many black english kids there too. they give so much attention to each kid that my daughter is starting to speak english as well. these schools are rare but they are there. i doubt that the public schools will improve. not to be negative or anything, but this country,s leaders are concentrating on all the wrong things. the education minister has all her time focussing on an oath when there are still schools without desks or chairs or food. they are depriving the kids all because of politics. its sad.

talking about education in sa its a little tough especially when you find some schools teaching only in the local language i dont have a problem with sending my child to a private school but another thing you are scaredo of is the rate of violence amongst these kids these days its always a worry when i read all the stories in the dailies the teachers are not making any change but can you really blame them the law has stripped them of so many powers to disciplione these kids and even the parents are scared to handle their own children 10111 will take of that ,so you see its unfortunate, but i hope tomorrow is gonna change things

Our kids don't want to learn now, and they are crying out to us and we are not listening. It isn't that they kids don't want to learn, they are not being taught! For the past 25 years, the education system in the United States has been changing. A new curriculum has been mandated in all 50 states to deliberately "dumb" down our children. If you don't believe me, watch this video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=5IAqsrMpaLE. The goal now is to modify our children's behavior to conform to what is good for society, not to question the role of government: in other words the ultimate goal is to mold our children to be good workers for the big corporations. This is totalitarianism (the state controlled/regulation of every aspect of public AND private behavior) The state of California sued the Board of Education and the court ruled that once the student enters into the publicly controlled school system the parents no longer have the right to regulate their children's education and that education can be taught by any means and by any way the public school district sees fit! But parents are speaking out across the country! http://www.schoolandstate.org/home.htm http://www.americancitizensacademy.com/ or read: American Education Fails because It Isn't Education (http://www.americanpolicy.org/educ/educationfails.htm)

WElcome to generation Y. Students are alot harder to teach now as they are used to doing multiple tasks at once and they want instantaneous results. The key to education these days is to keep up with the times, gone are the days of chalk and talk. Generation Y students want stimulation as they are used to that with all their technologies and gadgets. Some schools here are dealing with these issues by bringing in smart boards, this is an interactive whiteboard, that shows videos, programs, etc. Also by schools bringing in laptops, I think that will help stimulate and encourage students to learn more.
