What do you do with clothes that are no longer in fashion?

I am the kind of person who is not really fashion conscious. I dress more for comfort than fashion. That is why I don't really have problems when it comes to clothes that are no longer in fashion. Most of the clothes I have are the basic ones with basic colors as well. I just enhance my get-up with some accessories. There are people who buy the latest in fashion and they buy so much of these. I wonder what they would do with all these clothes when it's no longer in fashion. What about you? If you buy clothes and later on are no longer in fashion, what do you do with them? Sell? Give to charity? Keep (so that one day, in case such clothes would again be in fashion, you won't have to spend that much)?

I would say that i'm the type of person who can predict and sense what would be "in" and "out" in the coming months so the clothes I buy really stays in fashion for a longer time. I am also very neat and careful with my clothing so my clothes really look nice and new even when they are used already. So when time comes that I would not like to use them anymore or they are a bit out of fashion, I keep the ones I like (hoping that I can use them some time) and give others to my relatives. Because I knew a little about sewing, at times I embellish or alter the style to make them back in fashion

Altering the clothes that you bought that are no longer in fashion is really a good way of keeping some clothes in good and beautiful condition. Adding some embellishments could make it look new!

well it depends on what it is. i have a coat that my aunt used to wear (its suede) and a wrap style and is very much in fashion again, but generally stuff i dont wear any more goes to charity because even if it comes back in style, the style is altered ever so much...

I'm a farmer and my work clothes are not "dress clothes." But I do like to dress up from time to time. I have 4 grown boys who Love to go through my closets. They know I like clothes and never wear them out. They'll say," Oh look at this shirt its so old its come back in style again. Can I have this shirt Dad?" In fact I have some neat dress pants that are so old they have come back into style several times. And I have a leather belt that I bought in 1953, and I can still wear it 3 notches out.

I have worked in retail quite a bit, particularly in clothing stores so being as I got a discount, I have always had quite a few. The only problem is I get bored with them real easily. Normally, I give all the clothes I don't want to friends. Once in awhile I have donated them, but because its easier to give to someone that is standing right there, they are usually the receipients.

I don't really follow specific trends. I just buy what I like in the store and wear it until either it doesn't fit (weight gain or loss) or I just don't wear it anymore. I have a policy. If I don't wear it for a year, it goes to Goodwill. I like to clean my closet out several times a year so, I am always purging stuff from my closet. But, I don't buy really expensive stuff so, I don't feel bad about it and I give it to charity so, I feel even better about it! Items like jeans stay in my closet forever unless they don't fit anymore. Since I don't wear the "trendy" stuff, my stuff tends not to go out of style. A few items have. And, don't get me wrong, I am fashionable. Fashion is sort of a passion for me. Just not such a passion that I look like I walked out of a magazine. I just like to look put together for the most part and, I manage to do it without spending a ton of money. There is nothing for $200 that is better than something you can find at a store like Kohl's for $20. LOL! Maybe he material is better but, some $200 stuff is not attractive at all while that $20 top I just bought is my favorite thing in my closet!

Fashion dosen't bother me too much, if it is something I like and wear quite often I am not going to just get rid of it because it is out of style. The only time I ever get rid of old clothes is because it becomes damaged or I get something new that is similar to something I already have.

I always keep them. Coz fashion is like a wheel of life.. Time will come and the retos and 70's or 80's will back at the track again so you save it and make your sons or daughters make use of it ..aT LEAST THEY HAVE YOUR STYLE AND MAKE A BIG SMILE OUT OF IT

I am for comfort and fashion as well, it depends what is in fashion and yet I am comfortable to wear it. I only buy clothes when my budget permits it, and not every payday, so whenever I buy, I make sure that it would not wear off that easily and that it is classic yet fashionable in style. The clothes that I do not wear anymore goes to charity or if someone from my cousins who likes it I give it to her. Some of the clothes that came out of style and the cloth is still very nice, I just alter the style either by jazzing it up with updated accessories.

If I were to answer this based on what I just found in my closet recently I would have to say I shove everything in the back of my closet for 15 or so years till I take it out for a good laugh. 4 weeks ago I found a jean jacket with 4 inch letters "LA Gear" in beads and sequins on it with a sequined car underneath. I'm 31 now I think I wore this when I was 14. I was definitely having a really bad 80s/90s flashback when I saw it. Sadly it was not the only piece of "dated" clothing I found.

I usually store them away hoping one day they'll come back into fashion. :D You know how fashion works... they just keep coming back after several years. By saving them, I save a lot rather than purchasing clothes similar to it when it comes back into fashion. I just make sure the clothes I keep still fit me. If not, to charity it goes.

I love buying more and more clothes with changing fashion but it still doesn't make a big difference to me when fashion changes because I usually buy those clothes in trend which I feel really like/feel comfortable in so when its out of fashion also I wear it a few times. Then I give the clothes to charity or keep them in my wardrobe not hoping for it to be back in fashion but just because I like them.

I don't normally have a habit of stocking up my wardrobe with clothes just because there are sales in town. I only buy clothes when I need them, so I'm not the trendy sort who follows fashion. Besides, men's clothing don't go out of fashion that quickly, so I tend to keep the clothes I wear for at least a few years. When I don't need them anymore, or if they are really going out of fashion, I will either donate them to the Salvation Army or I may ask my maid if she wants them to ship back home for anyone who needs them. Usually these are still in very good condition and are wearable. Some of the stuff I have given away are still brand new or almost new. In the past, my maid actually took quite a number of my shirts and pants, and she appreciated getting them.

I am not also fashion conscious, Dolce, any clothes will do to me as long as I like it. It don't care if I would the only one wearing that kind of clothes so long as I am comfortable with it. That's what counts most. As long as it is still usable, I will continue using it. When I buy clothes, I don't think of what is new today, or what is in fashion, I will just choose that I like.

Here is the three ways my clothes out of fashion will go. Firstly, I donate to some charity agencies, but they collect clothes once or twice a year. Secondly, I give some of them to my mother. We have the same shape and she likes my clothes. Finally, I throw some of them into garbage because they are useless.
