A few days back a friend of mine who comes from Netherlands told me that in his country schools have started to teach in quite different way. Their teachers don't tell them any more what exactly to learn... they don't teach them as they did before. They give them materials and they study on their own. So that children have to rely on themselves much more than before. Lots of them complain about this. Well... I'm not sure if it's changed in all schools there... probably not. But some schools there have changed their ways of teaching. Do you think that this system is better than the traditional way of teaching? What do you think are pros and cons?

This style of teaching is maybe useful in rich and modern countries. I cant image this type of teaching for example in Iraq =)

I think the traditional teaching methods are flawed. History should not be taught as subject, because history has 2 sides. The students should be encouraged to look history from both sides. For instance the Bombing of Hiroshima in WW2. The students should be given both sides of the story and than asked for their opinion. There should be on official answer on this historical event. Also too much time is spent on teaching Knowledge, and not enough on Wisdom. (knowledge comes but wisdom stays!) Kids need to learn to think for themselves!
