Hi guys. Hey I tried to turn on my computer and load my Windows XP.
I got a black screen that had a couple of options. One was to start Windows normally. I tried that. Nothing. I tried Safe Mode. Still nothing happened. I tried to go back to the last successful loading and a bunch of junk came up on the screen. But all in all, the Windows would NOT load.
This has got me totally perplexed!
What on earth could have caused this?
It was running just fine last evening.
Any ideas?(HOPE!!)
The puter is a Compaq and is about 4 and a half years old.
Thanks!!!
Peace

OK guys!I am sooooo much a computer illiterate. I have no idea what you mean by formatting the hard drive. Can you help me by giving me sort of a run down on how to do it?But in a bit more English and less computer-ese...:o)
Thank You so much though!
I am thinking of taking a course this summer on troubleshooting computers.
Because all of my puters are trouble-SHOT!!
Peace

that happened to me before, unfortunately, it's probably caused by improper shutdown and crashed your hard disk. i don't mean to alarm you but you should get a new hard disk. or reformat. it worked for me. i mean the disk replacement. as for your files, you can have have it retrieved by professionals

Hi Kitkatgal70, I feel symathy to your miserable suffering. As a computer guy, I have to say how important keeping all your data one copy is.I don't know if you have got all your data back. If yes, you are lucky. Computer is not 100% safe in any time, we need to know what we should do when disaster happened since computer become one part of our life.
It doesn't make sense to find out why this happens since there are one thousand reason and you are not a IT guy. Bestbuy is a good place to recouver your data. Or try to find a computer friend like mt to help you. According to your description, your data should be still on your disk. Just use a disc-on-line system to boot your pc and copy all data to a external usb disk or network folder. Then reinstall your xp system and copy all your data back. That's a best way to deal with your situation.
And for a 4 and a half years old pc , it is unreliable to store all important data. Try to get a new one. You will get a payback by this new fast and powerful computer saving your time and wasted money.
