My friend/employer called me tonight from her parents where she is visiting and told me that her other babysitter was almost kidnapped yesterday!! She went home from school, changed into her work uniform, and then left the house to go to her job and before she got to the end of her street two guys tried to force her into a truck!! *http://www.977thebeach.ca/news_item.php?NewsID=2100 Have you ever had this happen so close to home ? I KNOW the girl.. I bet she is scared and scarred for life... i know i would be..

It always is such a shock in a small town. We expect them to be safe and not much happening. I am glad she is ok, besides being scared. I would definitely keep my eyes peeled.

Sorry hun, i ran off to bed soon after posting this discussion! It was late, and i've only been on here and there lately. Trying to get some stuff done like packing for hospital and getting baby stuff ready, along with the other normal housework! I am a little freaked out, I wouldnt think that something like taht would happen here.. little own to someone i know! Now i dont know her well or anything, but i know her to see her and say hi.. I bet i will never see her walking alone again.. And i bet i'm going back to my rule of never walking alone in the dark again. I come from the city and when i moved here people thought i was nuts cause i wouldnt walk alone anywhere in the dark.. I guess its alway a good rule of thumb, even though this happened in broad daylight as school was getting out!!

Oh my gosh, how scary! It's really an eye opener when something like this happens in a small town. It just goes to show that even as our kids get older (I mean she's babysitting age) parents still have to keep an eye on them. My daughter will probably be in college before I'm NOT at the bus stop waiting for her to get off the schoolbus! What a scary world we live in!

Oh gosh! To have something like that happen so close to home is horrible and a heck of a rude awakening!! Oh man, hope the girl is ok...? I was married and in a different state when this happened but in my home town three girls were kidnapped and killed. The later found the guy who had taken another girl hostage but she was able to get away. The three girls were in Virginia and the one that got away was in the state I live in now North Carolina. The guy tried to flee but the police were able to find him but he shot his head off before they could get to him to arrest him. What a looser. He could do the deed but couldn't do the time.

Wow its too bad they took a head shot. They should have shot him in the foot or something so that he could suffer in jail. I'm sure the other inmates would have treated him with the respect he deserved... I hear rapists are treated like they deserve in jails in the US.

Something similar. Our home was broken into in july of 2006 during a week long power outage. We had had a huge storm. So our security system was on the blink as well. We were all asleep about 2 in the morning. Our daughter was asleep on her folding dora bed on the floor next to my side of the bed. I woke up when I heard her say"Momma whos holding my hand" I had set up a flash light in the room because my child is ocassionally afraid of the dark, I looked over and there was a strange guy on all fours kneeling over my kid I screamed and he ran off. So nothing surprises me any more.

HOLY SH1T!! I would have been sleeping with everyone handcuffed together after that and with a shotgun under my pillow for YEARS to come!!!!! I wonder what that guy was thinking.. ?? Like was he going to do something to you guys and then thought better of it cause there was a kid there? was he trying to rob you ? WTF!?

He didn't take anything just bothered her. I hate to think what would have happend if she would have been sleeping in her own room. I might not have heard her say anything. Believe me I have had alot of sleepless nights. We got our dog 2 days later. I will never be without a dog again. And the dog loves her.

I have never had an attempted kidnapping happened to someone I know personally. However, they are a lot of attempted kidnappings in an approximate community which is about 15 mins from where I take residence. It is a very dangerous neighborhood that it is strongly not recommended to walk during the night. The curfew in that community is strict: Minors need to be in their homes by 8:00 pm. It is a pretty scary situation there. -Feel free to disagree!

It seems like everywhere is going to hell. I also live in a small town (well actually we live outside of town) and 12 year old girl was recently murdered here. The police still haven't solved the case. What is the world coming to?

Oh how scary, I am glad that it failed.. The closest crime I have had that is violent is a murder. This happened over 20 years ago when my oldest was about 3 or 4 and our friend had a 12 y/o son that was wonderful with my kids.. In fact I was thinking that he is so great with the kids, that when he was a little older, I would use him for a babysitter.. Unfortunately they lived in a bad area in the city and this precious boy was killed by his classmates..:(

There are a lot of really bad people in the world. It is hard not to become paranoid. I, for instance, want to chip my daughter with a GPS tracking device and have audio and video feeds streaming to my cell phone from some sci-fi necklace like device. Sadly, that is dysfunctional, paranoid, and creepy. So I must avoid such overprotective measures of the men in the white coats will come for me. Someone tried to take my daughter from our house once. We believe it is a mentally dysfunctional man up the road. This wasn't as scarring as you might expect. I know there are evil people in the world. The mentally scarring part was how the police department bungled everything. But I won't get into that here. Long story short, they didn't seem to care and -- it almost seemed like they wanted to brush it under the carpet.

It is VERY frightening to think of this happening to anyone sweety let alone someone we know. I hope that she receives counselling and doesn't let this awful near miss ruin the rest of her life or the evil side has won out, haven't they? I am going to keep her and her family in my prayers. xxx

OMG, I hope she is ok. I hope they catch whomever tried to do this so everyone will feel safe again, at least with them off the streets.
