Laptop computer from ebay...

I plan to buy a slightly used laptop computer soon from Ebay US or UK. However, I haven't bought anything that expensive before from ebay and I am a bit apprehensive because the laptop may come out not working upon arrival. It matters little that the laptop could be returned because if I consider the cost of freight, it may cost more than the actual cost of laptop itself. But still, it would still come out as much cheaper if I buy locally.
Have any of you here bought a used laptop from ebay and were you satisfied?

I got ripped off once too but I paid through bank draft and the amount was about $90. I got less weary when I pay through paypal since they have buyer protection. I hope when it comes do it, they could really help me. Thanks for info shaunee. Have a nice day!

buying a laptop from ebay originating from far countries???why do that?when you can buy locally some good slightly used laptops and lower prices in your home country...it has more advantage if you something near you...warranty can be easily done or refund is easier if needed but if you bought it in ebay there is no such thing there as refund.what if some seller tricked you and sold you a defective unit?its not that easy to locate such seller...to avoid inconveniences try to buy those which are only near to you at almpost the same or even lower price...

I plan to buy from the US or UK because they are simply much cheaper. I did try to find a cheaper laptop here but its still expensive compared to those bought from US or UK. This is the reason why I am asking others who may have done the same. It is my way of assuring myself that I won't be making such an unreasonable risk.

getting it from far places is already a risk...if you are trying to buy a good secondhand laptop there is a lot here who is also competitive in price and even the new one's most of the time its cheaper of you buy it here than from other countries because you will have to shoulder the taxes and shipping cost for that and who knows if they really take good care of your shipment.it a big risk for me to buy spomething that i havent tested yet and i even dont wanna try.but it still up to you to decide on this matter.mine is only a suggestion...good day!

since you are in the philippines, i would suggest you go first to tipidpc.com before you decide to go for the guys at ebay. it is better to deal locally because most likely it's C.O.D and you can check the items by yourself if it does work well and it has a waranty. nothing against ebay marketers but it is wiser to go within your geographical location for easier facilitation.

I quite agree with Johndur..There is so much risk in buying laptops from outside our country. I am also planning to buy one but I have so much apprehension. I think I can't take the risk. Also, if you are buying a brand new laptop it's better to go to Thailand and buy brand new Toshiba for only 25,000 baht. It's a very good deal already even if you include your fare. Sometimes Cebu Pacific offers cheap airticket to Bangkok.

I used to sell and buy Laptops on Ebay, and never had a problem! If your worried I suggest you inquire about special Packaging and look to see if the Seller had any bad comments on broken product or bad Packaging!

I would not recommend buying a used laptop on ebay. It will turn out the same as buying it new. You can find new laptops as cheap as $400 so why risk it and buy a used one on ebay. It's not worth the risk

Read the seller's feedback. If I am spending a couple of dollars, I am comfortable buying from someone new to ebay or someone who doesn't sell a lot of stuff. But when I am spending more money, I choose a seller who has perfect or near perfect feedback, and a long history of selling. If they've been selling on ebay for years, if it looks like they probably earn their living there, then of course they value their feedback & take good care of their clients. If they have lots of negatives (one or two negatives can happen to anyone- some customers are impossible to please) I wouldn't buy from them.
