Do you wear reading glasses?

Do you wear reading glasses because they are cheaper, when in reality you should be using prescription glasses? Perhaps your insurance doesn't cover optometrist visits or its just simpler to go to store and purchase reading glasses instead of the inconvenience of an office visit?

I wear reading glasses only when I lost my eyeglasses. Our health insurance covers the examination of an eye specialist but not the eyeglases itself. But here in our place there are lot of vendors selling eyeglasses at lesser cost. Just bring in the examination result and they will prepare the eyeglasses at lesser cost. Dont use reading glasses without doctors prescription. It will only worsen your eyes situation.

The problem is that my insurance doesn't cover the cost of vision, so I'm doomed to reading glasses until I can get better insurance.

When I broke my glasses ages ago before I got my news ones I had to purchase reading glasses because I did need them. They worked ok but I definitely want to use my perscription glasses after that.

I wish I could get prescription glasses but my health insurance doesn't cover them. Do employers and insurance companies just expect you to be blind?

Hubby wears reading glasses. He won't sit thru a visit to the eye doctor to get the exact prescription, but was able to try on various strengths at the eyeglass counter. He took about 30 minutes to figure out which one let him read the newspaper without having to hold it away at arms length. Once we knew which ones he needed, it was much cheaper as I found a 3 pair pack for under $10. Considering he is always dropping them, I'm glad the replacements are just as cheap. LOL

I buy them at the dollar store. That way if they get squished in my purse or something they are easily replaceable.

Yes I need readers, well probably more, but since I am uninsured I get the cheap readers. They work for now, but I worry they may not forever. I am almost to the highest level, I wear 300 right now, they only go to 325 or 350 I think. It was like I turned 40 and someone turned a switch off in my eye's. I never needed them till then. Nothing says middle aged like a nice pair of readers lol.

Oh my gosh, I can so relate. I went out and bought a new pair tonight and they were 275. Its alarming how quickly the strength I need is increasing.

I just bought my first pair last week. :grumpy:    I have had 20/15 vision in both eyes since my late teens.... this sucks. Tell me about it. My distance vision is fine, but its basically 30-45 cm (12-18 inches) where I need reading glasses - for reading papers and the computer screen. The eyes are simply less flexible by the time someone reaches about 50. I've already lost one pair. :grumpy: Left it somewhere in the boarding area at an airport just before I caught a late night flight from west to east coast. So now I have 4 pair

Thank goodness, I don't have to worry about that yet, but I"m sure the time will come when I will have to wear them! lol! Right now, I can't see far away, so I wear contacts. However, late at night if the light isn't good, I have a hard time seeing things close up. My older sister just got them, so I'm sure it won't be long till I need them for reading... Gosh, I feel old! lol!

Hi, I do wear it in order to get out of the strain I feel while reading and some of them could be read well. I used to use glasses from my 1st standard class onwards after a teacher found that I had few problems in my eye sight later it got rectified not completely even though a part.

I had prescription glasses for reading. Then I fell asleep reading about a year ago and my dog destroyed them! She absolutely tore them up. Since then, I've found myself without insurance to replace them (dumb luck). So I've tried reading glasses. Most just make the reading harder for me. I hope I find some that work because reading is a bit harder without the glasses.

No I need my prescription glasses too much! My grandmother insists on using reading glasses even though she would get free eye tests and subsidised glasses as she is 83! xxx

Up until now I have never needed them but I spend so much time on myLot now in front of the computer screen I have just made an appointment to get them checked. I will go with prescription though if they are needed as they will be the right ones for me. My sight I believe is worth the price I will have to pay. Ellie:D
