If you see a fight would you intervene

This is an excellent question. I believe non of us would really know what we would do until faced with a situation. When I first moved to Toronto I stayed right downtown. I had to take the subway in a really rough neighbourhood. The stairs to the subway were not straight down, but about halfway down there was a landing. Very often I saw a handicapped man sitting on this landing in the corner. He was panhandling. One day, when I reached the landing I saw this other man attacking the handicapped man who was sitting there as usual. I must say I had a reflex reaction, without thinking I started to scream at the top of my lungs. Within seconds people came rushing to the landing. The attacker ran off. I believe he did so because he was so outnumbered. I don't know what I would do if I had to face a situation alone.

i know for sure that i would try to break it up its one thing to fight but to fight a women? thats just out of line. And do i think of my safty..no i think of the othere persons safty first.

Wow! I can't do that! I can't afford to be in a trouble. The best think I knew will be to call the nearest police to rather intervene. I am pretty petite and I can't handle a strong man.

I will never intervene coz its their drama not mine..but i will do if theres a threat of killing somebody on the seen of course there goes my part.

Well, If i see my friend(or a known person) in trouble, i will surely go and help them. But if its some straner, then may be i will give a second thought. I would not take the risk probably... not sure. Such an incident never came up... and i will react to it instantly.. So not sure wht i would do

I would try to intervene...I have broken up fights.. I worked at behavior institution and tried to breakup a fight between two students and was hit in the face...I received a broken jaw...I returned back to this job and brokeup several more....Its hard but someone has to do it. I'd want someone to help me if I needed it..

I generally do not do. actually i get frightened if somebody fight on roads. its always not advisable tointervene also. I do not do so.

I would not try to get in the middle of their fight but what I would to is call 911 and hope they would get there in time to break it up before it gets too bad.

I've broken up many fights, mostly domestic ones. I'm not about to stand by and watch someone get beat on, not knowing that I can do something to help. I suppose a lot of it has to do with how I was brought up and things but I'm not really one to stand around and not do something. I'm not to worried about my own personal safety, I can take care of myself pretty well.

Hi, I cannot convey any now it depends upon the mental condition and decisions I take at that time. Moreover if the fight is between the beloved one for me definitely I have to interfere and if it is strangers may be I may interfere according the capabilities I possess and if I feel I can give a more positive result.

i have twice stopped men hitting a woman in the street, admitadly I was sober and the guys were drunk so there wasn't much danger. I wouldn't intervene in a man on man fight, unless it was obvious that one guy was getting really hurt, say being kicked whilst on the floor.

That depends on what do i meet. Generally, I am not able to stop that because I am short and look like a little girl even i am 20 now. I would rather call someone like the police to make it.

well i am of the kind who will be cheering up the two people fighting............if i were in that place then i would have encouraged the woman to take on her husband.........but never physically intervene

Yes, I would try. I would either but in or get help. I would probably help but if there are a lot of people then I would try to get help.

I wouldn't because I'm a short, weak girl and although many times in my childhood I had imagined myself to be supergirl, I'm smart enough to know I can't handle such a thing.Especially if the situation seems violent. However, I wouldn't pretend I didn't see the fight. If possible, I would alert someone in authority who could intervene. That's not difficult where I live because I can see police officers or traffic enforcers every few feet or so.

This is a very good point and tough one. I mean, I think I am the sort of person who would do anything in her power to defend someone or help somebody if attacked. My inner soul is dedicated to take care of others...but I also think that when being in a dangerous situation everything changes and therefore we cannot speak without being in it..I mean, I hate the sentence "If I were you or If I had been there"..the fact is that I am not you and I wasn't there. Moreover, I am a thin woman and the physical violence is something so cruel and unbearable that I honestly cannot answer your question without thinking of the real situation and being there. I think I will intervene following my heart but it depends on the situation. I could be frightened or too scared to intervene or just consider it better calling the police..

I would grab my cell phone run to a safe spot and call the police. I would never directly get in the middle of a fight. But i would always do what i can without endangering me.

I think that it would all depend on the situation...I mean if it were like two or three guys on one then i would probably try to stop them because not alot of people can go one on three...or if it weren't a fair fight like someone who couldnt defend himself/herself...other than that if it was a fair fight i would leave them alone..

hi there, well as frail that i am. the best thing i could do is call everyones attention and then someone more capable of intervening might be able to help. i'll also call the cops so that they could help too.. youre right, we should also thinko of our safety in the process because lives are lives.. we can't take em back once its lost.
