Much people are last to XP only after the first Service Pack, still more after the arrival of the second. You what will make? You will pass endured to Vista or you will wait for a little? You would be disposed to a modernization hardware also to pass to Windows Vista in case your PC was not "Vista Ready"?

I am more of XP. I have not liked any feature of Vista except for its graphics. The graphics of vista are too good, otherwise, XP is an allround best OS. It seems to me, that XP is more functional. However, I still await another SP of Vista, though not so much!
By the way, that was just my opinion, no wish to debate right now!! B)

Oh yea, just missed this point, it is pointless to have Vista, since there are so many games and programs that fail to run on vista, and there are still many applications that run only on Vista. Since Vista is not amongst those OS which can compromise and agree to other systems, it can't form a part of me (atleast!)

i use vista from more than an year and very rarely i had compatibility problems with programs.
You can see the list of the programs that are officially "Vista Ready" here: http://www.iexbeta.com/wiki/index.php/Windows_Vista_Software_Compatibility_List
But many other programs that are not in the list runs very well.. also programs only compatible with xp or previous microsoft systems.

I strongly suggest you stick to Windows XP.
Windows Vista is bad, bad and bad. Even Bill Gates admitted "it could be better".
There are many compatibility issues and unless you want your computer to crash every next program, sticking with Windows XP is a better bet.
Major computer makers have all provided options for buyers of new computers to "downgrade" to Windows XP for their operating systems.
Vista isn't cool; XP is.:P
