Why do they say Republicans are for the rich? Bush, Republicans, Rich, Taxes

I am not that politically inclined, I am more of a decide on a per issue basis.
I have repeatedly heard that Bush is for the rich and that Republicans are for the rich.
Perhaps this is true, I don't know.
What I have found to be true from what I have read is that Republicans are more conservative, Democrats more liberal.
Republicans are less likely to raise taxes. Democrats always supporting more taxes for welfare and underprivileged programs.
A mylotter recently posted that highest earners in the USA pay 99% of the taxes, I don't know if this is true or not. However, I am working class and live paycheck to paycheck and find it difficult to make ends meet in today's economy.
I don't particularly care for any of the candidates up for nomination.
I would just love to get someone in the White House that was going to make it easier for working families; someone who could lower taxes.
It is great to have all these programs for underprivileged people, but we are paying for them and can barely afford to put dinner on our own tables.
The whole Democrat/Republican fight just confuses me.
All politician seem like crooks to me and they come up with these great speeches about how they are going to make things different, however, they don't have any concrete plans; just empty promises.
I work as a Registered Nurse at a large inner city hospital, I see people everyday on Medicare that don't deserve it, people that could work and don't.
What do we do? We give them a cab voucher or bus ticket to get home (I am sure out of the working man's tax dollars) or stop at a crack house and be admitted the next week.

You have a good job and I suppose with good benefits, right? Still you have to scrimp and save to just get by. This is the plight of many Americans that will only get worse under Mr. Obama or Ms. Clinton. The fraud that is committed everyday in the medicare system that you spoke of will pale by comparison to the fiasco that these two have in store for our health care community.

"You have a good job and I suppose with good benefits, right? Still you have to scrimp and save to just get by."
You're absolutely right, many Americans do have that plight. But now think of those whose jobs aren't quite so good, but too "good" to be eligible for any help, and who get no health benefits. How hard do you suppose it is for them to get by? Those are the people the Republicans either don't care about or deny they even exist. As for Medicare fraud and the original poster saying people get it who shouldn't, I'm curious about that because that's the only health care coverage many senior citizens have. It couldn't be any simpler who "should" get it or should not - if you're over 65, you get it. My mother-in-law had NO coverage at all and went through some serious health problems because of it before she turned 65 and could get Medicare.

Annie, people like rodney won't have it any better when that money that they earn to scrimp by is taken away by health insurance companies who don't care about us and will find any excuse to deny covering people. Hillary, and to some extent Obama, both want to force us to buy insurance, even if we are just scraping by. That gives insurance companies the green light to screw us because they'll know we have no choice but to keep lining their pockets.

Evidently annepa and taskr36 you do not grasp what I'm trying to tell you. The programs these two (Clinton and Obama)propose will literally bankrupt this country! Forget what Hillary wants to do anywhere else but health care. If she gets elected and gets her health care package through congress, our legislators in Washington will not be able to pass spending packages fast enough to keep it afloat.
The people who can't afford health care right now at the present high prices are the people with the 7-9 dollar per hour jobs with no bennies. Even if you make this a 10 dollar a month package these people are not going to be able to afford it much less the deductables or co-pays. The only way to attack the health care problem in America is on the supply side of the problem. The hospitals and health care providers are the ones who have priced insurance out of sight. Have you seen an itemized statement of a hospital stay lately? 10 bucks for a tylenol? 100 dollars for an antibiotic shot? Granted, these prices have been caused by people without insurance and the inability to pay but should the insurance companies be the ones to take the hit? No, but they do and then they have to raise prices and this causes another segment of the population to opt out of their insurance because of it not being affordable anymore.
My greatest problem with these two is they are lying to everyone and getting away with it. Now I'm not naive, I know they all lie republicans, democrats, independents. But these two, what they are promising is just not within the realm of possibility and yet people are swallowing it hook, line and sinker! I mean look what they are saying about our troops and Iraq. Both of them are telling the country that one of the first things they will do when elected is bring our boys home. I don't know how old either of you are but you have to remember the democrat battle cry of the 2006 mid-term elections don't you? It went something like this---Give the democrats a majority in congress and we will bring our troops home! 2 years later, they're still promising!

What do you base this on? I am just curious; and would like some specific examples as to what makes you believe that Republicans are for the rich...

Republicans used to stand for smaller government and more choices made by the consumer. You want a car the saves on gas you buy one. I want a car that has of room for lots of people and cargo but gets poor gas mileage I can buy one. The Democratics beleive that the government is better able to handle the problems and willmake the decisions for you. It is best to conserve gas so I have to drive a smaller car that does not fit my needs. The democratics standard answer is a new government program to solvethe problem. True Republicans will say let the market place solve the problem and let you keep your money and spend it how you choose.

Republicans want to let you make your own choices, unless of course it comes to your own body, you own personal life and your right to die with dignity, then they feel they can choose for you based on someone's religious beliefs that may or may not match your own. They believe there should be no fuel standards for vehicles, the oil companies can gouge the consumer as much as they want to and anyone who wants a big gas guzzler and can afford it should have one and future generations can worry about our energy supply and our environment. Republicans believe the market can decide everything, big corporations can charge whatever they choose and screw their employees all the want to at the same time. They believe anyone who can't afford health care has no business being alive anyway. They'll tell you that anyone who believes we all have some responsibility to each other is a socialist.

I have also heard Democrats compared to Socialists...I don't know if this is true or not either.
I cannot find any candidate that I trust or want to vote for in the current arena.
I believe in some of the things Democrats believe in and some that republicans believe in. However, it seems to me that the Democrats seek to get the minority vote through alot of misconceptions and false promises. It seems there answer to everything is the government will give you and handout or solve the problem for you. But where is all this money coming from? The taxpayers pockets! Hello!

Don't forget that the Democratics answer to any problem is more government and higher taxes. Democratics are the ones that introduced the Alternative Minimum Tax which was to be a tax on the very wealthy that soon will cover most American taxpayers. It was a democratic who proposed a $.45 per gallon tax on gas to pay for transportation and to get the american consumer to cut down on gas usage.
On Health Care the President proposed that people be able to buy the amount and type of insurance they wanted. Family health insurance in Iowa is about $500 a month less than in Minnesota. Why is this? Minnesota has more (60+) specific medical treatment that must be covered by all insurance policies. One example is why should a single man pay for Birth Control? Why should a female pay for Hair Transplants for men? Such costs were required by the state and everyone has to pay by everyone. What we need to do is cut taxes and let the people decide how to spend their money.

republicans are for the rich that is true, the philosophy behind the republican party is to conserve the wealth, meaning keep big business thus the rich happy. the liberals is to spread it around,
so your observations are right, in order get money to provide programs for the poor and middle class governments raise taxes, republicans are not interested in the poor or middle class so they don't have to raise taxes, the liberals have to,
when there is breaks in a republican government it doesn't go to the poor and the middle class it goes to big business thus the rich.
their philosophy is if you keep the big businesses happy they provide the jobs for the poor and middle class.
neither system is perfect and people just have to go with the system republican or democrat that they feel is the right fit for them.

The Republican party was started to protect the interests of WEALTHY business owners. Hence, one of their tenets is to protect the assests of the weathly. That's just how it is with what they support. Thats why I think its kinda funny when poorer people support Republicans b/c theyre supporting a party who isn't fundementally interested in protecting the poor's interests. And rich people pay lesser taxes than the average joe. yes, amt wise they pay more but PERCENTAGE wise, the average joe pays like 30% of their paycheck while a rich person will only pay lets say 15% of their paycheck. Thats called Repulicans protecting their interests. Democrats believe more in social issues, like helping the poor. Which is why taxes can be higher with them, because obviously the money has to come from somewhere to implement social programs. Both parties have the pros and cons, you just hve to decide where you fall.

Allow me to clarify. Both parties are for the rich. The only difference is, which rich people do they cater to.
First I'll clarify the statistics. The top 1% of earners in the US pay 36% of the taxes. The top 5% pay %50 of all taxes. Most taxes are progressive, which means that as you earn more, you pay a higher percentage of your money to taxes. If you earn less, you pay a lower percentage, or in some cases, no taxes at all. The only tax that is considered to be regressive is sales tax. The less money you earn, the higher percentage of it you are paying to sales tax. Now that we have that cleared up I'll explain why people say Republicans are for the rich.
Republicans often favor tax cuts. Since rich people pay the most taxes, they benefit the most from tax cuts. Republicans try to limit funds that go to welfare. Rich, middle class, and even lower class don't benefit from welfare. Only poor people do. George H.W. Bush and of course George W. Bush made their money from oil. This has made them a constant target since oil prices are high and it's easy to blame the presidents who made their money from oil.
Democrats want to raise taxes. Since tax increases affect the rich more than the poor, people see them as being better for poor people. Democrats created the welfare system. When there was a budget surplus, democrats wanted to spend it on programs for the poor instead of giving it back to the American people. So how do they get campaign money? They want to force people to buy health insurance. They pretend this is to help poor people. In fact, the already rich insurance companies will get richer since people who can't afford health care now, will be forced to buy insurance they can't afford to use. People who are broke can already get welfare and medicaid. People like me who earn enough to get buy, don't benefit from those programs. I would be forced to buy insurance and not have enough money to pay the deductibles if I had to use it.
All politicians are in someone's pocket. The only question is whose.

I agree, but there is a second verse to that. When the democrats try their best to penalize the rich they only end up hurting the people they have said they wanted to help. Example: Lets say big government wants to cut into big bad Wal Marts profits because they just simply make so much money it is obscene! So they add an big business tax to the tax code and it only affects businesses that make in excecess of XXXXXXXXXXXXX amount of profits in a year. Does it really only affect those select few? No Way! If a business like Wal Mart loses 5 or 10 percent of their profit to taxes where do you think they make it up? You guessed it, the consumer! So tell me, who is it that will pay the higher taxes, Wal Mart or the consumer? Just food for thought.
