Maybe you should start respecting them more...

I know there are a lot of people who don't respect cops, for whatever reasons. But I just can't believe it...with all the crap they have to put up with, I respect them! Why don't you look at some of the crap they have to go through, and the kind of people they have to deal with:

You don't have to watch them all to see what they have to go through. Can you honestly tell me you would have the patience they show? I sure wouldn't!!!

Here in the Phils, its a different story. Believe me Cops are in corruption. Our eligitimate President is the only person they can protect. They are biased. They don't hear the cry of the poor people, they are only thinking of their future protection than of the civilians. You can ask other Filipinos who are member here in Mylot and they will tell the same. I hate cops here. You know instead of seeking for safety they are the ones who initiates the bombing whenever there are scandal involving their President just to change the topic. How could you imagine that. I am not into all cops outhere.I know there are still have clean conscience but I am sorry they are only a few.

Yeah, you have the same response as the first guy. And I can't argue with you because I have never had to deal with cops outside my country. So you're probably right. And I like how you mentioned there are still probably a handful there that are fair and just.

In my place police and the military are supposed to be apolitical but then they are forced to become affiliated to the one in position. Their loyalty to our country is much more shall i say loyalty to the perosn seated in power. That is why the respect for the police in my place is so low.

In general I agree that they should be respected but I worked as an MP in the Military in Germany and got to see how some officers truly are. Some of them take advantage of the authority they have and completely disregard a person's rights. My grandfather and father were police officers so I learned to respect a uniform but now where I live there are officers losing their jobs because of shady behavior and dishonesty. That is what makes a lot of people around here lose all respect for the officers they deal with.~D

Yeah I understand that there are bad cops, but I also believe that the majority are not. And you said their losing their jobs because of their bad behaivor? That's good! :)

I just don't get it. How could anyone not respect anybody who put their lives on the line to make sure that we and our city are safe? I respect cops and unless they do something bad, then they would loose my respect, but only on an individual basis.

Yes I agree! Cops are risking their lives everyday, and their families have to live with that also. Like you said, a cops respect should only be lost individually, when the cop does something to lose it. A whole force shouldn't be hated because 1 cop made a mistake.

I didn't check out any of your links(on dial up, it slows everything down to snail pace!!!) but I've seen enough real life cop shows to have seen what they have to put up with and the people they have to deal with. I definitely respect them and the tough job they have to do. On the other hand, my father in law is a cop, and he is a complete control freak, but I think in this case it has to be the person I don't respect, not the job!!

Yeah, I watch a lot of the cop shows too. And I could never do what they do! I hate having deal with people in general, so dealing with criminals-I don't think so! lol

Most of Chinese cops are good and warm-hearted. They protect people and society without thinking about themselves. In one of my discussions I talked about how a policeman helped me repairing my car in heavy snow. Few of them are not so good and rude to us.

That's good! =D I haven't ever had my car break down, so I never had a cop help me out in that way. But I know I would really appreciate it if I did!
I defeniatly understand some cops can seem rude and bullheaded. Sometimes I think that that's mostly due to the fact they've been on the force for so long, and had to deal with all those bad/rude people, that THEY stopped trying to be nice just because it hasn't worked for them.

I am aware that cops go through a lot all the time. I have nothing but respect for all of them. I know that there are some crooked, bad ones out there, but I have never had to deal with one personally. I have no animosity toward the police. They are there to protect and serve and that is fine with me.

Yeah I've never dealt with or heard about anyone I know having to deal with a bad cop. I don't think we have many of them in Arizona (yay!). =D
